Iconic Rhino Statue Coming to San Antonio Zoo
In order to celebrate the opening of the upcoming renovations to the rhinoceros exhibit at the San Antonio Zoo, a large sculpture will be arriving in 2019.
Aptly titled “The Last Three,” the piece is meant to represent the last three Northern white rhinos. However, the last male Northern white rhino, Suda, passed away mere days after the statue’s unveiling. Only two females remain in existence.
The 17-foot statue will make the San Antonio Zoo its permanent home in next month. This is meant to coincide with the zoo’s new Southern white rhino breeding program and habitat, which is planned to open sometime in next spring.
Gillie and Marc, the creators of the sculpture, hope that it is able to inspire the visitors of the zoo to join the battle for rhino conservation.
