CARE, MAINTENANCE AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
When purchasing a sculpture or painting from Gillie and Marc, the purchaser acknowledges and agrees that these artworks require ongoing care and maintenance to preserve their aesthetic appearance and structural integrity. Sculptures made of bronze, stainless steel, aluminium, fibreglass, or resin, as well as paintings and reproduction prints, may be affected by environmental and physical conditions over time.
Exposure to environmental elements such as salt air, pollutants, humidity, temperature fluctuations, acid rain, and atmospheric contaminants may result in corrosion, staining, or changes to the surface and finish. Physical damage caused by vandalism, accidental impact, misuse, or neglect may also lead to deterioration of the artwork.
Bronze sculptures require periodic maintenance, including cleaning, waxing, polishing, and, where necessary, the reapplication of protective coatings. Sculptures with painted finishes installed outdoors are particularly susceptible to environmental exposure and may require repainting over time. Patinas are living surfaces that will naturally evolve, and ongoing care is required to preserve their intended appearance.
Where galvanised steel is used as an internal structural support, surface rust may occur—particularly in harsh or coastal environments—and must be addressed as part of routine maintenance through cleaning and the application of appropriate anti-rust treatments.
Sculptures fabricated from stainless steel, aluminium, fibreglass, or resin require regular cleaning, protective care, and periodic touch-ups to maintain their surface condition and overall integrity.
Paintings and reproduction prints are sensitive to environmental conditions and must be displayed in stable, controlled environments. Exposure to direct sunlight, humidity, or extreme temperatures may result in fading, warping, cracking, or other forms of deterioration.
As with any valuable asset, regular care and inspection are essential. This includes routine cleaning, polishing (recommended every 6–12 months), and the removal of substances such as dirt, salt deposits, or bird droppings that may damage the artwork’s surface.
