Description Here’s some food for thought!
The hippo had a problem. Her kind was known as some of the most bad-tempered and dangerous animals. But she was just a big softy. All she asked was to be given space and plenty of waterholes to wallow in. Unfortunately, the water holes are drying up and over 95% of hippos have disappeared in the DRC alone. She explained all of this to her friend Rabbitwoman over coffee and plenty of watermelons. It will take a group effort to solve her problem.

Dimensions 96.1 x 141.7 x 67.7 inch (H*L*W) 1179.7 lbs 244 x 360 x 172 cm (H*L*W) 560 kgs
Description Leaping and darting through the foamy surf is a friendly dolphin, racing the lovers to the shore. Gillie and Marc created the original Wave Riders as a tribute to what some might say is the lost art of tandem surfing and the spirit of doing things together. It was picked for display at last year’s Harbour Sculpture Prize and now can be found at Woolloomooloo wharf. Tandem surfing might have gone out of fashion in the 60s but these Wave Riders are perfectly in tune with each other, and able to find balance despite the odds. Gillie and Marc’s iconic hybrid characters, Dogman and Rabbitgirl, represent the ultimate odd couple – two individuals who love each other even though they don’t fit into the outside world’s expectations. They tell the artists’ own true love story and reflect their belief in embracing the diversity of relationship experiences.

Description One of the most intimate experiences we share as humans is also the simplest, sitting down together and sharing a meal. It’s a time where we can nourish, support, and enjoy time with each other, a time that is cherished by many families all around the world.
But not everyone gets to share this same level of love and support. The world is currently experiencing the 6th mass extinction. More and more beautiful creatures are being pushed towards the threat of extinction and the reasons can always be linked back to us, humans. We have moulded the earth to suit our needs, indifferent to the effects on the other living creatures who share our planet.
This public sculpture experience is an invitation to join the best banquet in the world. Expertly crafted in bronze, the table is set and the animals are already tucking in, all that is left is for the public to take their seats.
Rabbitwoman and Dogman, the internationally beloved hybrid characters who have travelled the world spreading messages of love, acceptance, and adventure, play host to the party. They sit at a huge banquet table, six metres long, adorned with some of the most delectable foods imaginable. Their guests; ten of the world's most endangered animals. Rabbitwoman and Dogman have opened their table to the animals as a symbol of love and support, welcoming them into their family and promising to protect them in every way they can.
The Animals The ten endangered animals include; a hippo, Masai giraffe, African elephant, Bengal tiger, koala, chimpanzee, Grevy’s zebra, Northern white rhino, lion, and mountain gorilla. They have each been invited to the table as representatives of some of the best-known species in the world. And yet they all are dangerously close to the same threat, extinction.
Hippo: One of the most recognizable animals, this blubbery giant has charmed the world, even though it’s considered to be one of the most dangerous! They are at major risk from poaching, with a 2006 study showing a 20% reduction in their populations over the past decade. They are killed for their meat as well as the ivory from their tusks.
Masai giraffe: The tallest living animal in the world, the giraffe tower over the savannas of Africa. It’s good that they do because a group of giraffes is aptly named a tower! As a whole, the giraffe is listed as vulnerable but the Masai and reticulated species are endangered. The Masai populations have been estimated to have declined by 52% in the past few decades, mainly due to habitat loss and poaching.
African elephant: The African elephant is the largest land animal in the world and wanders across 37 countries in Africa. They are a keystone species meaning they are crucial for their environment. They use their tusks to dig up dry riverbeds in the dry season, digging down to the water hidden underneath and creating water holes for others.
Bengal tiger: The tiger is the largest member of the feline family with a great roar that can be heard as far as two miles away. The Bengal tiger may be the most iconic out of all 5 remaining species and is even considered a charismatic megafauna, a large animal with such symbolic value and appeal that they are often used to gain popular support.
Koala: Koalas are the beloved icon of Australian wildlife, the adorable little marsupial with sleepy eyes and gigantic fluffy ears. They can be seen high in the embrace of eucalyptus trees, munching away on their favourite leaves for the vast majority of their day.
Chimpanzee: The chimpanzee is our closest living relative, sharing about 99% of our DNA. It’s even thought that we have a common ancestor who lived sometime between 7-13 million years ago!
Grevy’s zebra: With stripes as unique as our fingerprints, the zebra is an iconic member of African wildlife. Grevy’s zebra is the largest and most endangered and is more closely related to the wild ass than the horse, the more common plains zebras’ cousins.
Northern white rhino: There are two species of white rhino, the northern and southern. The southern rhino was thought to be extinct until the late 19th century when a small population was discovered in South Africa.

Description It’s an unforgettable moment, to see the immense tail of a whale. For a fraction of a moment, this monumental ‘Y’ rises above the shimmering water before disappearing back into the depths. Beneath the sparkling surface of the great blue are all kinds of creatures. They hold the secrets of the history of our planet. But, growing larger than even the dinosaurs, the whales are perhaps the most important of them all.
Whales have captured our imaginations for centuries. But back in the day, we were doing most of the catching. In the late 18th century, whaling really found its stride. Huge numbers of whales were killed every year to fuel the Industrial Revolution. Whale oil was needed to lubricate all these new machines and factories, and also to light the homes of everyday people. Whales were also exploited for all kinds of goods, such as soap, perfume, clothing, and fish hooks as well as being a source of food.
With the Industrial Revolution came technological advancements. The 19th century brought exploding harpoons and steam-powered ships, allowing whalers to kill whales at an extraordinary rate. By the mid-20th century, most species of large whales were on the brink.
But hope was on the horizon. In 1982, the International Whaling Commission voted to ban commercial whaling. In 1986, this came into effect, and since then, many species and populations have rebounded. But not all.
There are still so many threats to whales today, even more so than before. The biggest culprits are climate change, bycatch/entanglement in fishing gear, plastic pollution, noise pollution, chemical pollution, and ship strikes. These threats affect different species differently as well as different populations. This makes whale conservation incredibly difficult.
Even with decades of protection, whales are very at risk. Currently, six out of the 13 great whale species are classified either as endangered or vulnerable. It’s estimated that 300,000 whales and dolphins are killed every single year because of bycatch. And that’s a conservative estimate. Despite conservation efforts, the North Atlantic right whale declined by 30% in the past 10 years. With only 366 left, this species is in serious trouble.
We all must become whale protectors. Whales are at the top of the food chain and are crucial for the health of the entire marine ecosystem. They are keystone species, important species that make a major difference to their environment. When whale populations plummeted, everyone suffered. Although counterintuitive, even their prey was negatively impacted. There became fewer krill and fish, despite their apex predator being gone. This goes against the Japanese government's argument that whaling is good for fish production. Protecting whales is also one of the best ways to mitigate climate change. Whales have an incredible part to play in capturing and storing carbon. Their huge biomass can store far more carbon than any other creature. And when they die, they sink, taking almost all that carbon down to the seabed, ultimately removing it from the carbon cycle.
Their poo is also the secret ingredient to creating the best carbon storage system in the world! Incredibly nutrient-rich, their poo works as a fertiliser in shallow waters. This is where the phytoplankton lives. Phytoplankton are the plants of the ocean and contribute over 50% of the oxygen in our atmosphere. They also capture around 37 billion tons of carbon dioxide each year. This is the equivalent of four Amazon rainforests. Whales are crucial for taking their nutrient-rich poop to nutrient-poor waters, transporting these precious nutrients to what would be desolate parts of the ocean and breaking up the layers of the ocean as they swim. Really, the oceans would be lost without whales.
For many people, as soon as the ban on commercial whaling came into action they believed everything was sorted. We had stopped hunting them so they’ll be fine now! This, sadly, is not the case. We must put the spotlight back on whale conservation and inspire the world to protect

There are only 2 Northern White Rhino left in the world. Poaching has sent these iconic creatures dangerously close to extinction. We must all work together if we are to save them from extinction. Take a seat next to them and join the mission to lift up the rhino and become their protector.
Rabbitwoman and Dogman tell the autobiographical tale of two opposites coming together as best friends and soul mates. Description Expertly crafted in everlasting bronze and mirror stainless steel, Rabbitwoman and Dogman, Gillie and Marc’s most iconic hybrid characters, are off on a brand-new adventure, setting sail on…. a giant inflatable flamingo! This public sculpture experience is a bit different. With the world in a state of uncertainty, too much time has been put into negativity. The world needs a bit of respite, to be able to sit back, relax, and laugh a bit. It’s times like these when it’s more important than ever to keep on smiling and finding the positivity in life. Rabbitwoman and Dogman have already thrown off the negativity, chucked on their swimming trunks and jumped on board their inflatable flamingo. The flamingo, beautifully coated in stainless steel to really make it shine, is the perfect accessory for any trip to the water, exuding the ideas of fun in the sun and a time to enjoy and play. To make sure it’s not just Rabbitwoman and Dogman having fun, there is ample space behind Dogman for someone to jump on board and head out on the adventure too. It encourages people to let their inner silliness come to the surface and just have fun. If anyone is searching for that silver lining in these trying times, they can jump onboard the shining silver flamingo and know that everything will be alright. This sculpture is incredibly important to help boost the morale of the public. It is not trying to be anything other than joy, and that is exactly what people need right now. We need to laugh together, to play together, and remember to embrace the fun side of life. If we can do that, we can get through anything.

So much so that when the opportunity to take a ride on a flamingo came along, their only question was, “Why not?”

Why Gillie and Marc has collaborated with The Brunswick, how that began, and how the artists decided to get involved working with The Brunswick.
The Brunswick in the heart of London is so much more than just a shopping centre. An establishment of the city, locals and tourists flock to the centre for their eclectic shopping options and exciting events. A safe space for everyone, The Brunswick hosts’ community events for all ages, backgrounds, and interests. From multicultural events such as a Bollywood night to an exhibition of fun and artistic sculptures of superheroes, The Brunswick gives the opportunity for everyone in the community to come together, learn about different cultures and interests, and have fun.
This inclusivity is a big reason why Gillie and Marc decided that The Brunswick would be a wonderful organisation to partner with. The artist’s sculptures promote understanding and openness, the key ingredients for a more loving and accepting community. The sculpture that they will be installing at The Brunswick is part of the broader project ‘Travel Everywhere With Love’. This is a global art project that is re-uniting the world with openness, unity, understanding and love. Understanding the significance of the travelling hybrid duo depicted in the sculptures, Rabbitwoman and Dogman, those who come across them will know that the hosting location believes in peace, harmony, and progress, which is exactly what The Brunswick stand for.
The sculpture they will get ‘Together Forever on Wheels’ incorporates two of Gillie and Marc’s most popular sculpture themes, Rabbitwoman and Dogman, Vespas, and coffee.
Rabbitwoman and Dogman are the artist’s favourite subjects for their art. Usually enemies in the animal world, our rabbit and dog can put their differences aside and come together with love and understanding as soul mates. Representing diversity and togetherness and without a definitive race, religion, or culture, they symbolize all people as one.Since they met while travelling, adventure and exploring have been a huge inspiration in Gillie and Marc’s work. Travelling gives the opportunity to discover the world, meet people of different cultures, and try new foods. It is such an important way to broaden horizons and become more understanding of those who are different. Rabbitwoman and Dogman are constantly off on different adventures, encouraging the public to step out of their front doors and fall in love with the world and the people and animals in it.
The artists have a soft spot for Vespas. Incredibly stylish and fun to zip around on, they also give an excuse to hold on tightly to one another. Coffee in hand, Rabbitwoman takes the lead on the bike while Dogman gets cosy in the sidecar next to her, trusting her to take him somewhere incredible. With a seat on the back of the bike, this sculpture is interactive, allowing the public to jump on and be part of Rabbitwoman and Dogman’s next adventure.
This amazing sculpture has been installed in major cities across the world to show love and acceptance and is part of the ‘Travel Everywhere With Love’ project. The Brunswick will now join this project and will be linked to all the other sculptures across the globe in a community of love and acceptance.

Description Hippo Wild Ride is a monument to the endangered species across the world that need our help. ‘Love The Last’ series aims to use public art to raise awareness, funds, and support for the most vulnerable animals. Rabbitwoman and Dogman, who appear perched up on the hippo, are Gillie and Marc’s symbols of unity and acceptance. They bring people together, just as the artists bring the conservation message to you. Hippo Wild Ride is not an artwork that says do not touch, instead, copy the duo as they invite you to jump up on the interactive sculpture. Rabbitwoman and Dogman want you to sit and climb on the sculpture, and be part of the cause and mission. Use the hashtag #LoveTheLast to share a selfie with the hippo, Rabbitwoman and Dogman, and join in the conservation of these beautiful animals – before it’s too late.
Turgwe Hippo Trust considers the hippo in Hippo Wild Ride, as the most photogenic hippo, with a hairier head and light skin. Named Kuchek after conservationist Karen Paolillo’s childhood pony, this beloved animal wanted to stay with his family, refusing to leave, which is typical male bull behaviour.
As male hippos draw to maturity, they are usually driven out by their family to make way for future calves and as not to spar with the dominant bull. Kuchek, however, refused to leave and stayed with his family no matter how much they fought him (fighting is normal hippo behaviour). In her 28 years of conservation work, Paolillo has only seen this behaviour in bull hippos twice! At the age of 13, Kuchek became in charge of his own family – after his parents left – and is now the father of four calves.

In 2018, Gillie and Marc launched a tribute to the Northern White Rhino with their sculpture The Last Three, unveiled in the heart of New York City. Unfortunately, it couldn’t save Sudan, the last male of the species, who passed away just weeks after the opening of the sculpture.
Through this incredible sad period for conversation efforts, Gillie and Marc realised how the sculpture had captured the public’s attention both on the street and online.
Thousands of people had sent goodbye messages to the last three rhinos, signed the petition to crack down on the trade of illegal rhino horn; and, donated money to Ol Pejeta Conservancy to help protect the last two Northern White Rhinos and the other endangered species that call Ol Pejeta home.

Description World-famous artists create awe-inspiring public art in honour of Chinese New Year for Melbourne’s most unique shopping centre...bringing more than just good fortune to the city during ‘Year of the Dog’Melbourne’ St. Collins Lane, in partnership with internationally-renowned sculpture artists, Gillie and Marc, are proud to unveil a breathtaking new work of art on 260 Collins Street, honouring Chinese ‘Year of the Dog’.
The 190cm tall bronze installation features the artists’ iconic hybrid character named Dogman, holding a magnificent red apple. He knew this was going to be a year of good fortune, as the artwork is aptly titled, and aims to engage existing community residents while also attracting new visitors to this vibrant hub of multi-culturalism in Melbourne.
"In Chinese, the word for apple is ping. Ping also happens to be the word for peace this is a critical facet to the sculpture’s design,” says Gillie, partner to Marc and one of the artists behind Chinatown’s new public art. “In the face of last year’s unstable global landscape, an apple signifying peace holds particular importance by spreading the message of diversity and acceptance for all beings.” Marc echoed these sentiments saying, “Gillie and I feel deeply connected to this representation, as all of our art is built upon the foundation of love and togetherness.”
This dazzling sculpture can be found sharing a positive message and invigorating the experience in Melbourne’s new fashion flagship and dining destination, St. Collins Lane Shopping Centre. In Chinese tradition, when a dog enters a home it symbolizes the coming of good fortune. Dogs are loyal, clever and brave. Best friends to humans, they are known for having harmonious relationships with people from all-walks-of-life, and don’t discriminate against socio-economic status, race, religion, or orientation.
“We combined the powerful image of Dogman with an apple in the hopes of inspiring the public to be brave in the pursuit of a better world,” exclaimed Gillie. Gillie and Marc have worked side-by-side for over 25-years to create art as one. The artists first met on a film shoot in Hong Kong...then 7-days later, ran away to Nepal and married on the foothills of Mt. Everest. In the Chinese Zodiac chart, the dog and the rabbit are born to be a perfect pair. They understand each other by focusing on their similar traits, while facing difficulties with patience and open-minds. Coincidentally, Gillie and Marc are best known for their beloved characters –Dogman and Rabbitgirl –who tell the autobiographical tale of two opposites coming together to become best friends and soulmates.
As unlikely animal kingdom companions, the rabbit and the dog stand for diversity and acceptance. Gillie and Marc’s highly coveted private and public artworks can be found spreading this virtuous message to major cities all over the world, including New York, London, Sydney, Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, and more! However, this year the artists feel very blessed to install their creation in honour of the ‘Year of the Dog’ on Collins Street in Marc’s hometown. This wondrous work of artist is sure to bring good fortune to all of Melbourne in 2018!

Description Our incredible ground-breaking global art project has landed smack bang in the heart of New York City to bring more love to our lives. And it’s working!
Thanks to The Avenue of the Americas Association we just installed the seven-foot tall Paparazzi Dogmanand Paparazzi Rabbitgirlin Sixth Avenue opposite the Rockefeller Center in New York to promote diversity, love and acceptance and they’ve been a hit! The exciting, unprecedented installation is being hosted as part of the Association’s “Love the Avenue” campaign at lovetheavenue.com, which has demonstrated the enhancement of Sixth Avenue and Midtown over the past several years.
We’ve been inundated with pics of crowds of people coming together to talk about the sculptures and take each other’s photos. It’s been really beautiful to see.
These interactive bronze sculptures can be touched, hugged and climbed upon to encourage New Yorkers to really embrace our differences.
Dogman and Rabbitwoman are so excited to be visiting New York they’ve even brought their cameras, so make sure to get out yours and take a selfie with them and tag #spottedonsixth to spread the word about this beautiful art series, because there’s always room for more love and art in our lives!

The light and fluffy foam dusted with chocolate or cinnamon, the warm and soul-enriching feeling you can only get from a hot drink, and the invigorating boost from the caffeine, makes this the ultimate beverage for her. Description Gillie and Marc have always found Angelina Jolie to be a huge source of inspiration – largely due to her humanitarian efforts with conservation, education and women's rights. In this 2.2metre tall artwork titled Angelina Rabbitgirl — Stronger than ever, the Hollywood actress stands strong to show that even through all her ups and downs she will never give up. Angelina Rabbitgirl is dressed in the iconic thigh-high slit gown that the film star wore to the 2012 Oscars. The Atelier Versace black velvet dress made Jolie’s right leg the most talked about limb in celebrity history. This sculpture is part of the Celebrity Animal series – a posse of A-listers which includes Arnold ‘Stag’ Schwarzenegger, Pamela ‘Poodle’ Anderson, Dr ‘Bear’ Evil, Michael ‘Dog’ Jackson and Jessica Rabbit. “Everyone has a fascination with celebrity but it’s difficult to get close and engage them,” explained Gillie. “So we came up with the hybrid idea so everyone could have that feeling of a little bit of fame.” Marc said they were also parodying celebrity culture. “Celebrities are the new royalty and shopping centres are the new galleries of the world.”

The four bronze Dogmen have sniffed out the rich and famous in Melbourne’s Federation Square, Woolloomooloo Wharf in Sydney, the Jing’an Sculpture Park in Shanghai, outside Raffles City Shops in Singpore, and New York’s Brooklyn and Greenwich Village. When Gillie and Marc first launched the series, within days the life-sized dogs went viral with millions of visitors coming to see them. People from all over the world, along with celebrities such as Snoop Dog, were eager to pose with the Pap Dogs, quickly giving them a celebrity status. Trey Ratcliff, considered to be one of the world’s best contemporary photographers, also came and was followed by 500 professional photographers to take a photo of him Gillie and Marc had intentionally created the interactive piece to expose the pack mentality of the media and how we hunt celebrities to get their photo. “Trey is a celebrity in his own right,” explained Marc. “So it’s amazing that we finally have a photograph of life imitating art.
