Fibreglass and Resin Sculpture Care

LOVE YOUR FIBREGLASS OR RESIN SCULPTURE
Caring for your sculpture and your responsibility as the owner

Gillie and Marc's fibreglass and resin sculptures are known for their striking detail, durability, and versatility. These sculptures are lightweight and resistant to environmental factors, making them an excellent choice for both indoor and outdoor display. However, proper care is necessary to ensure that these sculptures maintain their beauty and structural integrity over time.

FIBREGLASS SCULPTURES
Fibreglass sculptures are resilient and can withstand a variety of weather conditions, but they require regular care to keep their appearance pristine.

Care Routine To clean fibreglass sculptures, use a soft cloth or sponge with warm water and a mild soap solution. Gently wipe the surface to remove dust, dirt, and other debris. Avoid harsh cleaning agents or abrasive materials, as they can scratch or damage the surface.

Protecting the Finish If your fibreglass sculpture has a painted or glossy finish, it’s crucial to protect it from UV damage, which can cause the colours to fade. A UV-resistant protective coating applied once a year will help preserve the finish. Additionally, inspect your sculpture regularly for any cracks or chips, and repair them promptly with a suitable fibreglass repair kit to prevent further damage.

Storage and Display When not on display, store fibreglass sculptures in a dry, cool environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. For outdoor sculptures, position them in a way that minimizes exposure to harsh weather conditions.

RESIN SCULPTURES
Resin sculptures are valued for their detailed craftsmanship and are ideal for both indoor and outdoor settings. Like fibreglass, resin sculptures require proper care to maintain their appearance and prevent deterioration.

Care Routine Resin sculptures should be cleaned regularly with a soft cloth and warm soapy water. Gently wipe away dirt and dust, avoiding abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that may scratch or dull the surface.

Protecting the Surface Resin sculptures are susceptible to UV damage, particularly when displayed outdoors. Apply a UV-protectant spray or coating once a year to prevent fading or cracking. After exposure to rain or moisture, ensure the sculpture is thoroughly dried to prevent water damage.

Repairs and Touch-Ups Minor chips, cracks, or surface scratches can be repaired with a resin repair kit. For touch-ups, use paint that matches the original colour of the sculpture. Always clean and dry the surface before applying any touch-up products.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY AS THE OWNER
Sculptures made of bronze, stainless steel, aluminium, fibreglass, or resin are all vulnerable to damage from both environmental and physical factors. Exposure to pollutants, such as acid rain, saltwater, or atmospheric contaminants, can cause corrosion or staining, while physical damage from vandalism, accidents, or neglect can lead to deterioration.

When purchasing a sculpture, customers assume responsibility for the ongoing care and maintenance of the artwork. This includes regular tasks such as cleaning, polishing (every 6-12 months), and removing substances like dirt, salt, or bird droppings that could harm the sculpture’s surface. Whether the sculpture has a patina, coloured finish, painted surface, or any protective coating, it is the owner’s duty to maintain and, if necessary, restore these finishes to preserve the artwork.

Just as a car requires regular upkeep to remain in good condition, so too do sculptures. Neglecting to clean, protect, or maintain the finishes on a sculpture may lead to deterioration or surface damage. To avoid such issues, we strongly recommend consulting a professional art conservator or restorer for proper care and maintenance advice.

Please note that Gillie and Marc do not cover damage caused by neglect or improper care. It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure the sculpture is maintained and to address any required repairs or touch-ups promptly to prevent further deterioration. Failure to do so may result in damage that is not covered by any warranty or return policy.

By purchasing a sculpture from Gillie and Marc, customers acknowledge and agree to take full responsibility for the sculpture's care and undertake all necessary measures to preserve its original condition for as long as possible.
