Aotearoa’s Feathered Feast is a joyful and immersive tribute to New Zealand’s extraordinary native birdlife. Created by internationally renowned artists Gillie and Marc, the installation invites visitors into a whimsical, storybook-like setting — a “Mad Hatter’s Tea Party” reimagined in the wild.

The project began in 2024, when The Morgans approached the artists to create a bronze study celebrating the country’s unique fauna. What emerged is more than a sculpture — it is a living, breathing experience set within a powerful conservation initiative. At The Morgans, a significant restoration project is underway, regenerating native forest and establishing a protected sanctuary for endangered species.

Nestled within this revitalised landscape, the work offers a rare sense of connection. Visitors are encouraged to sit among the bronze birds — to pause, observe, and share the space. As they do, the distinction between artwork and environment begins to dissolve. The surrounding sanctuary comes alive with the movement and song of real birds, echoing the sculptural forms and deepening the experience.

Aotearoa’s Feathered Feast is both a celebration and a quiet call to awareness — a reminder of the beauty of the natural world, and the importance of protecting it. Through playfulness, interaction, and wonder, the work creates a moment of stillness where people can reconnect with nature and with each other.
