A Tribute to Najin and Fatu

Sit with Fatu, the Last Northern White Rhino
Sit with Najin, the Last Northern White Rhino

Najin and Fatu are the last two Northern White Rhinos on Earth. Mother and daughter, they are the rarest large land mammals on the planet and the final living reminder of a species that once roamed across Africa in its thousands. Their story is one of heartbreaking loss, but also extraordinary resilience. As Sir David Attenborough reminds us, “No one will protect what they don’t care about, and no one will care about
what they have never experienced
.” With that belief at its heart, artists Gillie and Marc invite the world to meet Najin and Fatu through two monumental public sculptures that celebrate their lives, honour their bond, and inspire hope that no other species will ever become “the last.”

These larger-than-life bronze sculptures invite the public to do something unforgettable—to sit with Najin and Fatu. Najin stands protectively over her daughter, while Fatu rests peacefully beside her, capturing a timeless moment of family, love and survival. Extending from each rhino is a dramatic 5.5-metre polished stainless steel horn. Once the reason these magnificent animals were hunted to the brink of extinction, the horn is transformed into a symbol of hope, strength and renewal. Visitors are encouraged to climb onto the horns, sit beside the rhinos, touch their skin and look into their eyes, creating an emotional connection that reminds us we are not separate from nature—we are part of it.

In partnership with the Love The Last Wildlife Fund, these sculptures are a global call to action for wildlife conservation. QR codes and donation links allow visitors to discover Najin and Fatu’s remarkable story while directly supporting conservation efforts that protect endangered species around the world. Together, these sculptures stand not only as a tribute to the last two Northern White Rhinos, but as a promise that their legacy will inspire future generations to protect the wild before it is too late.
