Gillie and Marc’s bronze The Lion Couple (Virginia and Bill) celebrates the powerful bond and gentle intimacy of the king and queen of the animal kingdom. Lions are symbols of courage, strength, and family, yet their true power lies in their pride — working together, protecting one another, and raising their young as a team.

This life-size interactive sculpture invites visitors to sit close, touch, and feel the presence of these magnificent animals, creating unforgettable moments and photographs. By making the lions accessible in this way, the artwork fosters a deeper connection between people and wildlife.

The installation at Kansas City Zoo is particularly meaningful, as the Zoo is renowned for its outstanding conservation work and dedication to protecting lions in the wild. Through research, education, and global partnerships, the Zoo continues to make a real difference for the survival of this iconic species.

The Lion Couple stands as both a symbol of love and unity, and as a tribute to the incredible efforts of Kansas City Zoo to ensure lions will thrive for generations to come.
