Proud to be Different

We were all born originals. Then from the moment we could walk and talk, we were pressured to fit in. But why fit in, when we were born to stand out? Gillie and Marc’s transformative new project, Proud to be Different, is a series of video interviews talking to all the weird and wonderful people who make this world special, colourful and unique. The Gay Pride movement of the 1970s was a crucial time in history. Now, Gillie and Marc are starting a movement for those without a movement. Proud to be Different gives a voice to all the “freaks” and “weirdos”. It embraces the plus-sized ballerina; the boy who thinks he is a vampire; or the woman who eats roasted crickets. It tells everyone, that it’s okay to follow your own path, and be true to yourself.

Who’s involved?
Gillie and Marc’s most recent video features Norrie May-Welby who won the landmark High Court case two years ago to be recognised as gender non-specific. They are the world’s first genderless person. Norrie’s outlook on life, the law and accepting who you are is so poignant that this video will make you believe in a beautiful, kindhearted future.

The artists’ launching video was the most provocative clip they have ever made. Professional burlesque performer, Miss Alyssa Kitt, spoke about her childhood and being constantly told she needed to lose weight. Miss Kitt embraces her differences in the most sexy and uplifting way. And yes, in this video she gets her “Kitt” off and it will take your breath away!

Fighting hate with love Gillie and Marc are best known for their iconic hybrid characters, Dogman and Rabbitgirl, who have been unfairly called “freaks” in the past. But in spite of that, Dogman and Rabbitgirl have been accepted all over the world. They started out in Paddington on a Vespa and are now in Perth, Melbourne, Singapore, New York and Shanghai – they’re everywhere.

Dogman and Rabbitgirl symbolise the fight for marriage equality, the fight for every kid who’s different, the fight against bigots. If the world can accept Dogman and Rabbitgirl, they can accept everyone.

Gillie and Marc need your support in this unequalled, life-changing art project. So please help spread the word. Together, we all should find the way to spread hope, love and acceptance. Remember, what makes you different, is what makes you beautiful. Be proud to be different!

Proud to be Different – Bec Cerio

Six years ago Bec Cerio was in a fatal car accident which gave her the epiphany to make the world her oyster. After tracking down a roller derby league, she soon became the “strong, nippy, fighty” version of herself known to all as Micro Machine. Her story is so empowering.

This video will completely change the way you think about insects – which is a good thing considering they play such a critical role to our whole planet.

Proud to be Different – Don Jason De Marco – Vampire

Don Jason De Marco first knew he was different at aged four. That’s because he is a vampire who drinks blood from the inner thighs of women and has undergone dental surgery to elongate his fangs. Even though Don Jason’s lifestyle isn’t for us personally, we’re full of admiration that he’s proud of who he is and refuses to change.
