THE FACTORY

Gillie and Marc’s studio — an Andy Warhol–inspired “Factory” — is located in the heart of Botany, Sydney, within a former 1950s toy factory that has been reimagined as the production centre for all of their work.

“30 years ago we dreamed of creating our own art factory, just like Warhol. It’s only in recent years that we realised this was truly what we wanted — to build something extraordinary, a space completely alive with art,” say Gillie and Marc.

Named in homage to Warhol as well as the building’s own history, The Factory spans over 2,500 square metres and brings together studio, gallery, and creative spaces — a place designed for making, experimenting, and sharing.

The scale of the space reflects the ambition of the work. Towering ceilings allow for the creation of monumental sculptures, including large-scale pieces developed on site. It is a place where ideas can grow without limitation.

Driven by an ever-present need to create, Gillie and Marc see The Factory as a living, evolving environment.

“We’ve never been drawn to spaces that show the same work over and over. For us, it’s about constantly creating, innovating, and sharing new ideas,” says Gillie.

Set within an industrial landscape, The Factory is also envisioned as a place of renewal. The rooftop has been transformed into a growing garden, with plans to expand it into a lush green oasis — a space where art and nature can exist side by side.

“The dream is to have the building covered in greenery — trees, vines, life — creating something unexpected and alive within the city,” say Gillie and Marc.
