Description Boulia loses a legend. Boulia fossil legend Dick Suter passed away suddenly last week with a funeral expected to be held in the North West town in coming days. Friend and colleague Tom Hurley said yesterday it was difficult to even begin explaining what 'Dinosaur Dick' had contributed to the community.
"He was one of the most reliable friends a man could want in his life, he would do anything for you and not expect anything in return," he said. "He lived a great life without needing lots of money or possessions, and for an 'unedumacated neanderthal' he made a mark in the fossil industry."
Mr Suter had been in the Boulia District since 1953, and curated the museum in town for 15 years. Through his work Mr Suter discovered a species, the Bouliachelys Suteri, which was named after him. He passed away on Wednesday and a service is tentatively expected to be held on Wednesday.

Description Diprotodon is classified as “megafauna” and is more affectionately known as a giant wombat. It is the largest marsupial ever to live and first existed 1.6 million years ago. In 2011, a diprotodon skeleton called Kenny was found in Eulo in outback Queensland. Kenny is one of the largest and best-preserved megafauna skeletons ever discovered.
Gillie and Marc were commissioned by Paroo Shire Council to recreate Kenny in bronze. The artists worked with paleontologists from Queensland Museum to use Kenny’s bones to recreate a biologically accurate, life-sized bronze sculpture. The bronze statue has helped create Paroo as a destination to learn about fossils and mega fauna in general. In fact, on the Outback Queensland website it lists the statue as the number one tourist site above mud springs, air raid shelters and rivers.

Description What started as an entry to the prolific sculpture event, Sculpture By The Sea in Sydney 2018, turned into a global phenomenon. With many different endangered animals tentatively popping out of manholes in the ground, ‘Come out come out wherever you are’ drew attention to all the animals of the world who are dying because of humans. By bringing a reminder to people who would not usually see them, this sculpture calls for greater awareness of our impact on the beautiful creatures of the world and calls for everyone to allow every living creature the right to feel safe. The sculpture won the Allen’s People’s Choice Award in Sydney, with over 1 million votes cast. People all around the world identified with the sculptures and wanted to be a part of better tomorrow.
Now, Gillie and Marc are continuing with their dream of creating a better tomorrow through art. By extending the idea of the original sculpture, Gillie and Marc are now creating more and more of their manhole creations. With not only endangered animals popping out of the manholes, Gillie and Marc have also extended this to all living things; animals, trees, and even Dogman! Everyone, whether that be humans, animals, young or old, should feel welcomed, feel safe, and be accepted. There should be no reason to hide from the world. Everything is important and should be protected and loved.

There's no place like home The Wizard of Oz was one of Gillie and Marc's favourite childhood movies, and when they set about creating a life-size Dorothy Gale they needed to find the perfect hybrid for her. They think they've found it in the cat. Dorothy might have only been a child when she went on her amazing journey through Oz, but she was also the smartest and most sensible one there. In fact, she quickly became relied upon and asked for advice. As any cat owner will tell you - they're very smart creatures, who can always be depended on and make great companions. They may be moody sometimes but they're always there. Its said that cats have nine lives, and that they always land on their feet. Dorothy was never harmed by anything on her journey. Even being knocked out by a hurricane and almost crushed by a house couldn't harm her. Although she coped with all these things, she didn't exactly take in her stride - she desperately wanted to go home. Cats might seem independent and adventurous but they also get scared easily and crave the attention of their owners, they often end up wanting to go home just like Dorothy. Gillie and Marc wanted to portray Dorothy caring for Toto, the dog she loved so much, even in cat form because Dorothy had empathy and concern for every single creature she encountered in Oz. So if any cat was going to get along with a dog, it would be Dorothy.

Mini-me, you complete me Gillie and Marc were drawn to Dr Evil because he made them laugh, and it was interesting to them that an evil character could be so funny. They also found themselves fascinated by his cat - a hairless breed that many would consider ugly, but that Evil showed great affection to, proving that he definitely did have a tender side. Dr Evil is supposed to be a parody of all the things that are truly evil, and of characters we would actually be scared of. His characteristics are taken to such an extreme that were supposed to see him as nothing but ridiculous, so Gillie and Marc decided to put him in his most ridiculous pose but turn him into a hybrid to take seriously. Bears are animals to be feared by humans. They are incredibly intelligent and strong and powerful enough to really scare any campers who come across them. However, theyre actually not mean creatures at all. Mothers show great affection to their cubs and they live in very social groups. Gillie and Marc saw parallels between these qualities of bears and Evil, and they thought that by turning him into this hybrid people might first take him more seriously, and then be prompted to think about some of his other qualities. After all, for all the scariness of bears in the wild we also sleep with teddy bears in our beds when were children and cant help but feeling theyre cute and cuddly.

Description Humanitarian, scholar, educator, and author, Dr Tererai Trent is one of the world’s most internationally recognized voices for quality education and women’s empowerment. Distinguished as Oprah Winfrey’s “All-time favorite guest”, Trent is a prominent activist for equal rights to education, her contribution to this cause was born from her own fight against adversity.
Trent was born in Zimbabwe (formally Rhodesia) when poverty, war, and traditional women’s roles denied women the opportunity to attend school. She secretly taught herself to read, and later wrote her dreams, which included getting a bachelor’s degree, a master’s, and a PhD. She then sealed them in a tin can and buried them deep in the ground.
Despite marrying young and having three children by the time she was eighteen, Trent never lost sight of her dreams. Through hard work and belief in her dreams, she eventually earned multiple degrees, and a prominent global platform with world leaders and international businesses and audiences where she advocates for universal access to quality education.
Trent has published two books, won the 2018 NAACP Award for Outstanding Literary Work, and improved education for over 6,000 children. A true inspiration, Trent’s motto is “Tinogona”, which means “It is achievable!”
Tall and glorious, Trent’s flower is a beautiful yet durable flame lily. An incredible climbing flower, flame lilies can reach a height of almost 10 feet. As well as being able to rise and thrive in all conditions, flame lilies also share Trent’s home of Zimbabwe where they are the national flower.

The juxtaposition of the eagle, symbolizing freedom and power, with the skull, representing mortality and the passage of time, creates a thought-provoking contrast. The intense colors of red and purple enhance the dramatic impact of the scene, evoking a sense of mystery and intrigue. Through this captivating composition, the painting invites contemplation on themes of life, death, and the eternal cycle of existence.

Description Early Morning Coffee is a three-metre tall sculpture of Dogman and Rabbitwoman peacefully enjoying their morning coffee. The artwork was first unveiled in the ritzy Sydney suburb of Double Bay where it wowed passersby for two years. School children would run past and laugh at their exposed genitals, or literally climb up on to them. Gillie and Marc are regulars at Double Bay and know that a good cup of a coffee and dining al fresco is a huge part of the neighbourhood’s culture. So they created an artwork that beautifully enhances this outdoorsy, modern lifestyle and community.

Description As seen on True Local, City of Melbourne, & Visit Victoria
Coffee tastes better when you drink it together!
Dogman and Rabbitgirl believe starting the day and taking some time to enjoy each other’s company is truly important, because at the end of the day life is about finding happiness in the little things, and sharing these things with the ones you love.
Like Marc, Dogman hails from the burbs of Melbourne — a city said to have the best coffee culture in the world. Three-meter tall sculptures of Dogman with his beloved Rabbitgirl set up shop in Melbourne Emporium - Australia’s largest design precinct. It effortlessly blends art, fashion and coffee, so it’s little wonder that Dogman and Rabbitgirl drinking their early morning coffee was such a hit for the venue!
When the touring coffee drinkers left Melbourne Emporium, they headed straight for 500 Bourke Street, the next stop on their tour. Their visit at #500Bourke was a huge success! The community couldn’t get enough of the loving coffee drinkers, who became the stars of over 10-thousand shared photos, hashtags and cherished memories!
Finally, Dogman and Rabbitgirl arrived at St. Kilda Pier, meant to be their temporary and final destination. However, St. Kilda Pier and the public loved the sculptures that they bought them to keep for good! Dogman and Rabbitgirl can now be visited in their permanent home, bringing the local community together over a nice cup of coffee.

Description "Echo, the Ascending Canary Barn Owl" is a captivating painting that captures the essence of an endangered species on the brink of disappearance. The centerpiece of the artwork is a canary barn owl, facing the camera with piercing eyes that reflect both vulnerability and resilience. Description Eleasha was named by Deborah Bradley after her late daughter who loved birds.
In a groundbreaking work of contemporary art Gillie and Marc are giving us a rare glimpse into what extinction looks like. With a close up of Australia’s most threatened bird and one of the world’s rarest parrots, the orange-bellied parrot, this unique form of conservation lets us see the last 50 wild individuals left on the planet with a beautiful close up.
“It can be difficult to imagine what extinction looks like so we wanted to create a work that would help the public visually understand what this means,” explains Gillie.
With 50 stunning paintings, the artists have captured the dwindling numbers of this endangered parrot in a series that can all fit on one wall. It is a sobering exhibit to help bring understanding to this important issue and inspire conservation.

Elephant and Friends Party Couch (Bronze Sculpture)
Description This joyful bronze sculpture invites you to become part of the scene. Rabbitwoman and Dogman sit beside a cheerful African elephant, who raises its trunk in a toast, as if welcoming you to join the celebration. There’s space for you on the couch, to sit alongside these beloved characters and share in a moment of connection and warmth. Rabbitwoman and Dogman represent love, acceptance, and unity. By sitting with them, you are part of that message. At the heart of it all is the African elephant, a symbol of strength, wisdom, and family. But this beautiful creature is under threat. African elephants face the constant danger of poaching and habitat loss, with their numbers declining rapidly in the wild. This sculpture is more than a charming scene. It’s a call to cherish our relationships and to protect the animals we share the planet with. Come closer, take a seat, and be part of something meaningful.

Description In Elephant at Home, Gillie and Marc use their signature pop-art style to challenge perceptions and provoke thought. A majestic blue elephant sits comfortably in a classic red armchair, creating a striking contrast between the wild and the domestic. The piece plays with the idea of the "elephant in the room"—a powerful metaphor for pressing issues that often go unnoticed or ignored. With vibrant colors and dynamic stencil work, the artwork invites viewers to reflect on themes of conservation, coexistence, and the boundaries between nature and human spaces.
Artwork Features The purest example of the artist’s freehand work, Gillie and Marc’s ‘Contemporary Line & Stencil Paintings’ are a stunning series that pairs unashamedly bold colors with deep black line work to form intimate moments featuring their signature alter egos, endangered wildlife and more. The carefully selected vivid colors and unmistakable imagery means no two pieces are alike and can have multiple meanings the more they are viewed. Gillie and Marc paint each unique canvas side-by-side ensuring love is engrained in every brushstroke of each one-of-a-kind work of art. Recently inspired by the pop style of Andy Warhol and the iconic stencils of street artists Banksy and Mr. Brainwash, Gillie and Marc expanded their collection with the edgy addition of using spray paint stencils on their canvases. The stark contrast of bright colors beneath a dark stencil breathes life into this limited series, embodying Gillie and Marc’s philosophy of the importance of accessible art by playfully bringing the street to the canvas.
