When Gillie and Marc first launched the series, within days the life-sized dogs went viral with millions of visitors coming to see them. People from all over the world, along with celebrities such as Snoop Dog, were eager to pose with the Pap Dogs, quickly giving them a celebrity status. Trey Ratcliff, considered to be one of the world’s best contemporary photographers, also came and was followed by 500 professional photographers to take a photo of him Gillie and Marc had intentionally created the interactive piece to expose the pack mentality of the media and how we hunt celebrities to get their photo. “Trey is a celebrity in his own right,” explained Marc. “So it’s amazing that we finally have a photograph of life imitating art. It summed up everything the sculpture was intended to say.”

Towering above you as you walk along the street, the pap dogs have their cameras ready to capture every second of your life. The sculpture series containing the paparazzi dogs went viral in 2013, commenting on the constant obsession of society to see every tiny detail of celebrity lives, no matter what the cost. This latest sculpture shows the dogs in a new colour; green, red, and blue. The overbearing nature of the sculpture makes you think about the age we are in, the generation of social media where everyone has a constant need to photograph the tiniest details of their lives. The dogs help us to question the importance of this, are we focusing on the wrong thing? Shouldn’t we be focusing on fostering real and lasting relationships rather than posting a facade of photographs for strangers to like? We should all put down the cameras and spend time with our real amigos.

Commissioned to create this giant nude dog man holding a camera for the Ying Ren Hotel, Beijing, China. The hotel is located in Huairou district which is the Hollywood of China. Paparazzi Boy will take your photo as you enter the hotel and it will be projected onto the wall inside the lobby as you enter. Project took 1 year to complete In 2012, Gillie and Marc were commissioned to create something to grab people’s attention for the opening of the Ying Ren Hotel in Beijing’s Huairou District, also known as China’s Hollywood. The artists created Paparazzi Boy, an eight-metre tall, striking Dogman who only wears a camera and impeccably sculpted six-pack. They chose the national Chinese colour of fire-truck red to further entice attention. Paparazzi Boy photographed guests as they entered the Hotel’s foyer. The photos were then projected onto the wall inside the lobby as you enter, giving people a taste of what it’s really like to be photographed as a celebrity.
Gillie and Marc’s miniature collection is a series of 21 sculptures. Each sculpture features iconic couple and globetrotters, Rabbitwoman and Dogman.
