About the Exhibtion
The Wilds of Tasmania is a permanent public art installation by Gillie and Marc at Elizabeth Street Pier in Hobart, celebrating two of Tasmania’s most iconic animals — the Tasmanian devil and the Tasmanian tiger (thylacine).
Riding together on a whimsical tandem bicycle, the two animals represent Tasmania’s extraordinary wildlife, both past and present. The Tasmanian devil is a symbol of the island’s unique living wilderness, while the thylacine is a poignant reminder of what has been lost and the importance of protecting endangered species before they disappear.
Playful, interactive and filled with character, the sculpture invites people to get close, take photographs and connect with Tasmania’s natural story. Set on Hobart’s historic waterfront, The Wilds of Tasmania is both a joyful celebration of the island and a gentle reminder to treasure its remarkable wildlife for generations to come.
