About the Exhibition:
Marking their public sculpture debut in Toronto, Gillie and Marc present He Was on a Ride to a Safer Place with Rabbitwoman and Dogman, a joyful yet urgent call for conservation nestled in the heart of David Pecaut Square. This larger-than-life bronze sculpture features the artists’ iconic characters Rabbitwoman and Dogman on a tandem bicycle, led at the front by a majestic northern white rhino — one of the most critically endangered animals on the planet.
True to Gillie and Marc’s interactive style, the sculpture includes a seat at the back, inviting the public to join the ride both physically and emotionally. The whimsical adventure reflects the artists’ personal love of travel, their environmental ethos, and their commitment to uniting art with activism.
The northern white rhino, once roaming freely, now teeters on the edge of extinction due to poaching and habitat loss. With only two females left in existence, the sculpture urges viewers to take action and protect what little remains of our planet’s wildlife. As Rabbitwoman and Dogman symbolize the power of unity and acceptance, the sculpture becomes a moving tribute to coexistence, compassion, and collective responsibility.
This powerful work forms part of the global #LoveTheLast campaign. Visitors are encouraged to take a photo, share it online, and spread awareness about the urgent need to save our endangered species.
In a world where over 70% of wildlife has disappeared in just the last 50 years, this sculpture asks: will you ride with us toward a better future?
