About the Exhibition:
Love the Last March is a monumental public art installation by Gillie and Marc, designed to raise awareness and inspire action to combat the sixth mass extinction. Featuring iconic sculptures of endangered species, the exhibition aims to educate the public about the importance of conservation and the need to "re-wild" our planet.
The installation invites visitors to engage with the artworks and take part in a movement to protect biodiversity. From the majestic gorilla leading the march to the intricately crafted animals in the procession, every sculpture tells a story of survival and hope.
The exhibition’s interactive features include QR codes on plaques, providing access to detailed information about each species and their challenges, and augmented reality animations that bring the sculptures to life, creating a truly immersive experience.
About the Project:
Gillie and Marc’s Love the Last March highlights the critical threats facing wildlife today, including habitat loss, poaching, and climate change. Inspired by the words of David Attenborough, the project calls on humanity to "move from being apart from nature, to becoming a part of nature once again."
The centerpiece of the project is a record-breaking 192-meter-long bronze sculpture, the largest of its kind, depicting 45 endangered species marching together. Led by a great eastern lowland gorilla, the march symbolizes unity and the fight to protect the natural world.
The installation is part of Gillie and Marc’s Love The Last initiative, a global movement to elevate conservation in the public mind, inspire action, and raise funds to save endangered species.
The Sculpture Design:
At the forefront of the march is a great eastern lowland gorilla, reaching out its hand to invite the public to join. Behind it, 44 other endangered species, including a chimpanzee, northern white rhino, and Bengal tiger, link together in a single procession.
Each sculpture is based on real animals that Gillie and Marc have photographed and sketched, capturing their unique characteristics with stunning accuracy. Interactive plaques and QR codes accompany each sculpture, providing information about the species and its conservation status.
Augmented reality brings the sculptures to life, allowing visitors to experience the animals in motion and deepen their connection to the wild.
