About the Exhibition:
The Last Three on This Planet is one of the most moving and monumental tributes to endangered species in the world. Installed permanently at 441 Ninth Avenue in New York City, this powerful sculpture immortalizes the final three northern white rhinos who once lived together in Kenya — a mother, her daughter, and the last male of their kind.

Created by renowned artists Gillie and Marc, the piece was inspired by the artists’ life-changing encounter with these majestic creatures in Kenya. Tragically, since that visit, the last male, Sudan, has died, leaving only two females — Najin and Fatu — in existence. This artwork stands as both a memorial and a call to action, urging the world to recognize the urgent need for wildlife conservation.

With towering bronze forms and deep emotional resonance, The Last Three on This Planet reminds us of the fragile state of biodiversity and the real risk of extinction that so many species face. It asks us to consider what it means to lose an entire species — and what we can still do to prevent more losses.

Though the future for the northern white rhino is uncertain, this sculpture keeps hope alive. Through continued conservation efforts and scientific breakthroughs, there is still a possibility that Najin and Fatu’s legacy will live on.
