This project is titled ‘Future Forest Paintings’.
In a series of contemporary abstract style paintings, Gillie and Marc are bringing the vibrancy of the forest to canvas and the joy of nature into peoples homes. Beautiful as they are, these paintings are a little bit special. For every painting sold, the artists have pledged to plant 6 trees in real life, creating forests across the planet and healing the world.
Gillie and Marc grew up in the ‘70s where their backyards were forests and life in the treetops was the norm. As they grew older and had children of their own they noticed the forests seeming to get smaller.
“We’ve all heard about the destruction of the rainforests on the news but it’s so much more than that. We also noticed it in our own backyards. We knew we had to do something to bring back the forests we both loved so much,” remarked Gillie.
More than 1,400 tree species are listed as critically endangered and in urgent need of conservation action on the IUCN. The biggest factors for deforestation is the production of timber, clearing to make room for grazing cattle, soy, and palm oil plantations. And with the world’s population size growing at a rapid rate, demand for products and space continues to grow.
But the world cannot survive without trees, and plenty of them too. Apart from the nostalgic joy we get from childhood, trees are incredibly important for the health of the entire planet. You may have heard of the amazon rainforest being called the lungs of the planet. Well, it’s true. All the trees are! Trees take in carbon dioxide from the air and transform it into the oxygen we breathe. They also clean out the nasty pollutants making it healthy for us.
But that’s not all. They also keep our waters clean by stopping runoff and keep our soils strong and nutrient rich, holding it all together and preventing erosion and desertification. And, the more obvious benefit, they give us food. The list of positives that trees give us goes on, these are really just the tip of the iceberg, but one thing is for certain, without trees we would be in a right pickle.
'Future Forest Paintings' is a way for the artists to bring this important message to thousands of people while bringing the beauty and joy of the forests into their homes.
“We have used really bright and vibrant colours because that’s how we see forests. They’re bursting with life and activity so we wanted to reflect that diversity and joy in an abstract and beautiful way,” shares Marc.
A form of conservation art, this project is also a unique way to help the public become actively involved in the protection of trees. By buying a painting, the purchaser will know they have made a real difference by bringing 6 new trees into the world.
“We love using our art as a medium to share an important message and to help people find their passion for the natural world. It can be hard to know what to do sometimes so we hope these paintings help people to find action while enjoying something beautiful in their home”, notes Gillie.
Abstract art is one of the freest styles, a style where the artists are not bound by the limitations of reality and can let their imaginations and emotions run wild. In their first abstract collection, Gillie and Marc have created a wonderland of colour, creating scenes of the world around them in a way that transcends the traditional. Inspired by the great abstract artists such as the Delaunays, Kline, and Kandinsky, Gillie and Marc have evoked a celebration of colour and joy, showcasing their emotions in a vibrant scene that is both beautiful and unique.
Please note: All canvases come stretched and ready to hang, however if you would like your painting to be framed, Gillie and Marc are happy to provide this service for you at your request. For framing enquiries please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
It is important to keep your painting out of direct sunlight and not to lean anything against the surface of the canvas. If it gets dusty, it can be cleaned with a soft dry cloth.
