Description Gillie and Marc’s woodcuts are an exciting explosion between painting and sculpture. With a love for both 2D and 3D work, they have created a unique style which is - in essence - sculptured paintings.
Gillie and Marc spent a lot of their early creative life in Ubud, Bali, the home of painted wood carvings. They began to collect many Balinese wood carvings and learned how to artistically paint wood. Over the years they experimented in relief woodcuts looking to give it a contemporary feel. Much of their inspiration is looking at traditional art forms like bronze sculpture and wood carving and then creating ways to make it contemporary.
They are excited and proud to introduce “Woodcut POP". These are carved wooden panels primed and sealed and then painted with a pop gloss enamel. These vibrant and exciting works allow the 2D paintings to fly off the wall giving excitement and dimension to wall art. Rabbitgirl and Dogman literally pop off the wall in a 3D effect. The modern explosion of colour and vibrancy is contemporary art at its cutting edge.

Description Wollondilly Anglican College students, dignitaries and veterans gathered at a ceremony to watch the unveiling of an Anzac memorial this week.
Former Prime Minister John Howard and director of the Australian War Memorial Dr Brendan Nelson joined headmaster Dr Stuart Quarmby in revealing a statue and officially opening the Anzac shelter in the playground on Monday, June 18. The ceremony paid tribute and honoured soldiers who had died in World War I. Several speakers talked about the Battle of Fromelles, the horrors of war and the lives of particular soldiers and their families. The statue, made by sculptors Gillie and Marc Schattner, has a special meaning to the headmaster. The soldier is a representation of Acting Sergeant William Polding Ryan, who was 20 years old when he was killed in action at the Battle of Fromelles. He was Dr Quarmby’s grandmother’s uncle.
“The statue of the soldier represents all of the diggers who fought and died in the Battle at Fromelles in a 24-hour period,” he said. The little girl in the statue is year-one student Hannah, who is the great, great, great, great niece of Mr Ryan.
“[When looking at the statue] imagine every student saying ‘thank you for paying such a price’,” Dr Quarmby said. “Imagine him saying ‘thanks for finding me’.” Dr Quarmby spoke about his relatives Corporal Alfred George Tuck and Mr Ryan who died on their first day of battle on July 19, 1916 at Fromelles. Their bodies lay in mass unmarked graves until they were identified by DNA from surviving family members.
Mr Howard, who opened the school 15 years ago, praised the college for honouring Anzac soldiers.
“We remember particularly the terrible battle at Fromelles described as the worst day in Australia’s history because of the terrible losses,” he said. “All I can ask...is just to simply reflect firstly on how fortunate we are to live in this wonderful country and to not grizzle about it unless you have a good reason to do so, and also very importantly, to remember what made it possible. Remember those people who did give their lives to defend the freedoms of this country. “And finally honour those men and women who wear the uniform of the Australian Defence Forces today.”

Location Warragamba, NSW
Description The Warragamba ANZAC Committee commissioned Gillie and marc to create a bronze, life size replica of an ANZAC soldier standing, head bowed in remembrance. The sculpture was unveiled during Remembrance Day 2018. The design of the combined memorial is as follows: The sandstone plinths are original core samples from Warragamba Dam and have been donated by the Water Board. The plinth facing west represents the traditional orientation during remembrance of all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
The plinth facing east represents the promise of a new day, a statement that those who worked on Warragamba Dam expected to return home to see another day. The two (2) plinths back to back represent the opposing expectations of those who have died. The soldier ready to lay down his life for his country.
The dam worker expecting to return home. Yet both face the same fate. The pattern surrounding both plinths represents the rising sun with the centre most section, the sun and the radiating lines the sun's rays.
The design and construction of the memorial was undertaken by the Works Division of Wollondilly Shire council. Funds were provided by the Federal Government through the Wollondilly Remembers Committee and Wollondilly Shire Council. Gillie and Marc were asked to add to this memorial by creating a bronze sculpture.

Style Woodcut Pop Art Description In You Turned the World into Wonder, Rabbitwoman and Dogman stand together atop a gentle whale, transforming an ordinary shoreline into a place of endless imagination. The magnificent whale becomes more than a companion—it becomes a symbol of possibility, carrying them toward a world where curiosity triumphs over fear and every horizon promises a new adventure. Their playful confidence reminds us that the most extraordinary journeys begin when we choose to see the world with open hearts. Filled with vibrant colour and whimsical storytelling, this painting celebrates the power of love to awaken wonder, encouraging us to embrace life's unexpected moments and discover magic in places we never thought to look.
Artwork Features Gillie and Marc’s latest work is an exciting explosion between their painting and sculpture. With a love for both 2D and 3D work they have created a unique style of work which are in essence sculptured paintings.
Gillie and Marc spent a lot of their early creative life in Ubud, Bali. This was the home of painted wood carvings.
They are excited and proud to introduce their latest and favourite collection “Woodcut POP".
Galleries, collectors and corporates across the globe have already fallen in love with Woodcut POP with 10 major commissions now in progress.

Description The beautiful black and white striped zebra is an iconic animal, the creature that helps children learn the letter z in their ABC’s. But the zebra is in trouble. The herds are shrinking and struggling for survival. Loss of land for expanding agriculture, competition with livestock for food and water, war, and climate change, have left the zebra with an uncertain future. As part of the series ‘Come out for a better tomorrow’, this zebra is cautiously poking its head out of a manhole, forcing us to remember its existence and asking us to work together to save it. This sculpture series calls for awareness of our impact on the world and to allow every living creature the right to feel safe and loved.
What started as an entry to the prolific sculpture event, Sculpture By The Sea in Sydney 2018, turned into a global phenomenon. With many different endangered animals tentatively popping out of manholes in the ground, ‘Come out come out wherever you are’ drew attention to all the animals of the world who are dying because of humans. By bringing a reminder to people who would not usually see them, this sculpture calls for greater awareness of our impact on the beautiful creatures of the world and calls for everyone to allow every living creature the right to feel safe. The sculpture won the Allen’s People’s Choice Award in Sydney, with over 1 million votes cast. People all around the world identified with the sculptures and wanted to be a part of better tomorrow.
Now, Gillie and Marc are continuing with their dream of creating a better tomorrow through art. By extending the idea of the original sculpture, Gillie and Marc are now creating more and more of their manhole creations. With not only endangered animals popping out of the manholes, Gillie and Marc have also extended this to all living things; animals, trees, and even Dogman! Everyone, whether that be humans, animals, young or old, should feel welcomed, feel safe, and be accepted. There should be no reason to hide from the world. Everything is important and should be protected and loved.

Description This zebra is on his way to the top. Things had hit rock bottom for him, his home was being taken over by humans and he was constantly having to look over his shoulder for fear a poacher would be hiding in the bushes. He decided enough was enough, he no longer was going to live in fear. With a little help from his friends, the zebra found a way out. Climbing high above the destruction below the zebra began his upward journey. It was only up from here and he couldn’t wait to see what his new life had in store for him.

With a close up of Australia’s most threatened bird and one of the world’s rarest parrots, the orange-bellied parrot, this unique form of conservation lets us see the last 50 wild individuals left on the planet with a beautiful close up.
“It can be difficult to imagine what extinction looks like so we wanted to create a work that would help the public visually understand what this means,” explains Gillie.
With 50 stunning paintings, the artists have captured the dwindling numbers of this endangered parrot in a series that can all fit on one wall. It is a sobering exhibit to help bring understanding to this important issue and inspire conservation.

Description Zuri is a playful baby African elephant who loves nothing more than exploring, chasing things, and swinging his trunk around in delight. Still too young to fully understand how useful it is, he finds endless amusement in it. But behind his joyful curiosity is a deep fear—of people with guns. He once saw them kill his auntie for her tusks and worries constantly about losing his mother too, knowing he wouldn’t survive alone. Like all African elephants, Zuri is part of a close-knit herd led by a wise matriarch, and though he’s cared for by many loving females, his mother is his lifeline. Elephants like Zuri are vital to their ecosystems, digging water holes and spreading seeds, but threats like poaching, habitat loss, and drought are pushing them to the brink—leaving young calves like him vulnerable and scared in a world that's rapidly changing.
