Description
A captivating bronze sculpture bench invites the public into a moment of alertness and unity as a vulnerable cheetah sits at the center, flanked by Rabbitwoman and Dogman, all three holding binoculars. The cheetah, the fastest land animal yet one of the most at risk, becomes the focal point of this gathering, symbolizing both speed and fragility in a world where its survival hangs in the balance. On either side, Rabbitwoman and Dogman — Gillie and Marc’s beloved Wildlife Warriors — mirror the cheetah’s gesture, their binoculars raised in shared focus. This act of looking outward together represents vigilance, awareness, and the need to see clearly the threats facing endangered species. Their posture leaves open spaces at both ends of the bench, inviting the public to sit, lift their gaze, and join in the act of watchfulness. The cheetah itself embodies grace and urgency. By placing it between Rabbitwoman and Dogman, the sculpture emphasizes partnership: humans and wildlife side by side, keeping watch over one another and over the planet they share. The binoculars become a powerful metaphor. They symbolize perspective, foresight, and the responsibility to look beyond the present moment to safeguard the future. The Cheetah Bench of Friendship becomes more than a seat — it is a symbol of vigilance, kinship, and a call to sharpen our vision so that vulnerable species like the cheetah do not fade from view.

About the Cheetah
The cheetah is the fastest land animal on Earth, capable of reaching speeds up to 70 miles per hour in short bursts while chasing prey across open grasslands. Found mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, with a small population in Iran, the cheetah is built for speed—its slender body, long legs, flexible spine, and large nasal passages allow for incredible acceleration and agility. Unlike other big cats, the cheetah hunts primarily during the day, using its keen eyesight to spot and stalk antelope and other small to medium-sized animals before launching a rapid sprint to capture them.

Despite its remarkable adaptations, the cheetah faces serious challenges in the wild. Habitat loss, human–wildlife conflict, and declining prey populations have caused its numbers to fall dramatically, leaving fewer than 7,000 individuals remaining. Because cheetahs require vast territories to hunt, habitat fragmentation has isolated populations, limiting genetic diversity and reducing breeding success. Illegal wildlife trade and competition with larger predators such as lions and hyenas further threaten their survival. Conservation programs now focus on protecting open landscapes, promoting coexistence with local communities, and maintaining genetic health through managed breeding. These efforts are crucial to ensure that the world’s most graceful sprinter continues to roam the African plains.

How to Help
Inspired by animals that Gillie and Marc met on their travels, we invite the public to discover and interact with these beautiful creatures up close and personal – this allows audiences to connect, take photographs and share their favourite species with friends and family.

With more exposure comes more awareness and builds on the love we already have for animals around the world. With love comes a greater sense of urgency to create a change and save all endangered animals.

The sculpture will be aligned with the hashtag #GillieandMarc and #LoveTheLast to raise unparalleled awareness about the sculpture’s cause across the globe.
