The hippo had a problem. Her kind was known as some of the most bad-tempered and dangerous animals. But she was just a big softy. All she asked was to be given space and plenty of waterholes to wallow in. Unfortunately, the water holes are drying up and over 95% of hippos have disappeared in the DRC alone. She explained all of this to her friend Rabbitwoman over coffee and plenty of watermelons. It will take a group effort to solve her problem.
Rabbitwoman is part of the iconic hybrid duo who tell the autobiographical tale of two opposites coming together as best friends and soul mates. These beloved hybrid characters work as our conduit with wildlife, helping us find joy in nature and rekindle our connection with the wild. In the last 50 years, 70% of the world’s wildlife has been lost. We must act now to save them.

Description This sculpture features a big tank. But here to save the day is a beautiful great elephant, crushing the tank to useless metal and leaving the world a little bit safer.
The elephant is symbolic on many levels. Elephants are one of the most iconic creatures on the planet, and also the largest. Its crushing weight shows physically the power of the natural world, yet also its importance. An elephant will always be worth more than a piece of machinery. Killing animals for the sake of war is one of the most senseless acts imaginable.
Yet it’s also a symbol of triumph. Elephants are one animal that has been massively impacted by the many wars that have raged through their homes. Their ivory tusks have always been a pull for poachers. But in war times, elephant poaching is even more rampant, their tusks sold off to buy resources to fuel the war effort. Now, the elephant is the victory. He has taken out the tank and created peace for us all.

Description Giraffes are some of the most curious creatures out there. With their beautiful long necks, they are an icon of African wildlife. Always imagining they will be around forever, it’s hard to believe that their numbers have declined by 30% in only 3 decades. Poaching and the destruction of their habitats have left giraffe numbers to dwindle. As part of the series ‘Come out for a better tomorrow’, the giraffe cautiously looks out of a manhole, bending its neck backwards to check if it’s safe to come out. This sculpture series calls for awareness of our impact on the world and to allow every living creature the right to feel safe and loved.

This crazy creature is only found in Australia and is a semiaquatic, egg-laying mammal. Egg-laying mammals are known as monotremes and are some of the very few mammals that do not give birth to live young. Listed as near threatened, these crazy creatures are luckier than some. They are protected in Australia so they have managed to avoid the worst of human activity. Yet habitat loss from human expansion, water pollution, and climate change is still a very real threat. As part of the series ‘Come out for a better tomorrow’, this platypus is climbing out of a manhole, forcing us to remember its existence and asking us to work together to save it. /
Dimensions 5.5 x 10.8 x 6.3 inch (H*L*W) 6.6 lbs 14 x 27.5 x 16 cm (H*L*W) 3 kg
Description This miniature sculpture was based off Virginia and Bill, the actors who played the lions in the movie Born Free, and the Co-Founders of the UK animal welfare and conservation charity Born Free Foundation.
Inspired by the true story and the film ‘Born Free’, this sculpture is a celebration of an orphaned lion cub who was saved by a loving couple. In Northern Kenya, a game warden called George Adamson was sent to deal with a lion who killed a man. Finding three cubs that were left behind he took them home to his wife, Joy, naming them Big One, Lastika and Elsa. They raised the cubs themselves rehoming two at a zoo. But they had formed a special connection with Elsa. They decided to release her to the wild and started the difficult journey of teaching her to fend for herself. After a lot of setbacks including a lack of hunting skills, being attacked by a warthog, and even becoming seriously injured after a different attack, Elsa found her feet. With a lot of hard work and dedication, they taught her how to be a wild cat and set her free in Kenya. Elsa grew to have cubs of her own, starting a new generation of lions that would have never been.
In the sculpture, Elsa stands on a 1961 landrover surrounded by orphan cubs, 20 in total. There are also two couples of adult lions, George and Joy, and Bill and Virginia, representing the real-life couple who raised the little orphaned Elsa, and the actors who played them in the movie. The cubs symbolise the future generations of lions.
If you purchase any of the lions, 30% will go directly to the Born Free Foundation.

Born Free is a UK charity that is on a mission to ensure all animals, either wild or living in captivity, are treated with compassion and respect. With nine working priorities, Born Free is making an impact on many important areas for the wellbeing of wild animals. Focusing on the battle against poaching and trophy hunters, the exploitation of captive animals, human/wildlife co-existence and conservation, transboundary projects and more, Born Free is taking steps to bring us closer to a world where animals can live without suffering at the hands of humans.
Description Giraffes as a species are listed as vulnerable to endangerment, with some even listed as critically endangered. But one species is so rare that hardly anybody has heard of it, the Tree Giraffe. These beautiful animals are the stuff of fairy tales, elegantly perched in the branches of trees, seemingly weightless considering their great size. These giraffes are the guardians of the African flora and protect the remaining trees from the inevitable human expansion.

They wanted their trip to be perfect and so they each planned all the little details … every sight, bite and delight. To their dismay, when they showed each other their plans, their trip schedules didn’t match up! The only similarity was a visit to the Paris Zoological Park, since Rabbitwoman and Dogman both loved learning about conservation. So, they decided to go to the zoo first. While there, Rabbitwoman and Dogman met their friend hippo, and told him about their problem. He reminded them not to take life too seriously, and that a loving journey has no rules. The hippo said, “When you leave here, just wander together and see where life takes you.” Rabbitwoman and Dogman took their friend’s advice, and it led them right to Paris’ beautiful Eiffel Tower.

Description The koala has always been beloved by the world, but the 2019-20 Australian bushfires elevated their story to the entire world and stole their hearts. 80% of its habitat, which was already rapidly disappearing, was destroyed and thousands of koalas were lost. Some were luckier, like the now-famous mother and daughter who were captured in a magical photograph that was shared across the globe as a symbol of love and hope. It captured the moment when the two koalas had escaped the danger of the flames and embraced each other on the side of the road. It is such a tender moment, filled with love but still expressing the fear that came with the flames. This photograph captured the hearts of the world. And it also captured ours.
On the anniversary of the 2019-20 Australian bushfires, we released this special sculpture based on the famous photo. Crafted in everlasting bronze, we have captured this moment as a tribute to all the wildlife that were lost in the flames and a reminder for us all of the importance of conservation and climate change if we are to protect our precious animals. Now you can take this limited-edition sculpture home with you as a symbol of solidarity with all Australian wildlife.

Description In 2019 and 2020, fires devastated Australia, tearing across the country at a terrifying rate leaving homes destroyed, livelihoods ruined, and many animals burned. Ellenborough Lewis the koala was pulled from the flames by the heroic Toni Doherty, who spotted the burned koala running into fires near Port Macquarie in NSW. The brave and loving actions of Toni gave Lewis another chance at life, a chance many of his fellow koalas did not get. Sadly, Lewis succumbed to his burns and passed away shortly after his rescue. Over 1000 koalas died in the 2019/2020 Australian Bushfires with 80% of their habitat destroyed. Already ‘functionally extinct’ this has led them ever closer to the threat of extinction. Heartbreakingly, Lewis has also joined the number of koalas who didn’t make it, having succumbed to his injuries.
This memorial to Lewis and Toni reminds us of the importance of human compassion and the role we all can play in conservation by simply stopping to lend a hand. The original monumental public sculpture has been donated to the Port Central Shopping Centre and the people of Port Macquarie by Gillie and Marc.

Description Emoli's Story On the 23rd of August visitors to Tsavo East came across a calf collapsed and barely breathing along the Voi river circuit. The drought in the southern sector of Tsavo has really hit wildlife hard, particularly the elephants that have remained in that area, with many Mums’ and their calves succumbing to the dry conditions, because while water remains it’s the scarcity of food that is the challenge. Sadly the mothers with young calves have been unable to travel the distances required to find better browse, so choose to remain anchored close to water points, and because of this they are more often than not the first casualties of such brutal droughts. This area of Tsavo is experiencing one of the worst in many decades, with poor rains for two years in a row, so in the recent months we have experienced as many as 100 elephants dying from this 2017 drought in the southern area of Tsavo, and sadly numerous calves, found too late to save.
Tagwa's Story On 6th May Angela was called by Simon Gitau, Senior Warden Mount Kenya, with reports of an orphaned elephant sighted in community lands, abandoned by the elephant herds of Mount Kenya National Park. The community thankfully were elephant friendly and sought to find assistance for the little baby alerting 'Kenya Wildlife Service' (KWS) personnel in the area.

Description Kiasa's Story This story began with Neville Sheldrick on a routine patrol flight in one of the Trust’s planes, heading to the Southern sector of Tsavo East National Park from the 'David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust' (DSWT) Kaluku headquarters. While en route, in an area known as the triangle towards the Tsavo and Athi River junction, he noticed a tiny elephant calf escorted by two big bull elephants. He flew the area scouring for evidence of elephant herds but sighted no other elephants in the area. Kiasa is part of Gillie and Marc's exhibition - The Orphans.

Description Jotto's Story The 21st of March began as a particularly fraught day for us, beginning with the news that two orphaned elephants were in need of rescue at different ends of the country; one having fallen down a well in the Namunyak Conservancy in Northern Kenya, and the other possibly a victim of poaching in Tsavo East National Park found near a huge lone rock named “Sobo”, close to the Eastern boundary of the Park. Were this not enough, we then received the tragic news that one of our Elephant Keepers based at the Voi Rehabilitation Unit had suddenly collapsed and died very suddenly and unexpectedly whilst out in the bush with the orphans, which was heart-breaking for all the 'David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust' (DSWT) team. Jotto is part of Gillie and Marc's exhibition - The Orphans.

Description Ndotto's Story On the very peak of the Ndoto Mountains, in Kenya’s remote Northern Frontier District, a tiny newborn baby elephant was found confused, alone and scared in a throng of sheep and goats. This little calf had evidently become mixed up in the nomadic Samburu tribesmen’s livestock soon after he was born. It is probably that the human presence is what frightened his mother leaving the abandoned calf mixed up in the livestock. The traditional Samburu pastoralists here live in an extremely isolated and inaccessible area of Kenya, a beautiful and majestic landscape. Despite many of the Samburu people being sympathetic and use to living this life of coexistence between man, their livestock and the wild animals, sometimes human wildlife conflict can unintentionally create these kinds of tragedies.

Description Mwashoti's Story On the 14th of February an innocent victim of poaching was brought to our attention, a young elephant calf of around one year old required treatment for a horrendous snare wound, a wound that cut through the joint leaving the baby extremely compromised. His mother remained by his side, and had to be anesthetized too in order for his injury to be treated. The decision was made there and then to give him the benefit of doubt and leave him to try to heal in a wild situation, remaining by his mother’s side.

Description Mbegu's Story On 15th May 2014 Angela was given news about a tiny calf needing to be rescued from the Naibunga Conservancy at Ol Lentille. This was a complicated situation as an elephant had killed a woman from the community and had been shot by 'Kenya Wildlife Service' (KWS) as a result. The calf had been left behind in the fracas that ensured with the stampeding herd, and any chance of reconciling her with the herd was impossible given the circumstances. The angry community of Kimanjo had set upon the baby in revenge spearing her several times. When she took refuge in the grounds of a nearby school the children began stoning her. Very swiftly the warden of the Naibunga Conservancy came to the calf’s rescue and kept her safe from the community who were baying for her blood in retaliation for recent events.

Description Musiara's Story This tiny calf was first observed by a film crew on the plains of the Maasai Mara and after hours of observation it became clear to them that something was definitely not as it should be, as the calf was very weak, and appeared a stranger to the herd. While the herd he was trailing were certainly curious of him, with one female in particular paying special attention, there were no lactating females present in the herd, and soon they left him behind while they moved on with their browsing. It was at this point the film crew first alerted the authorities and Warren Samuels called Angela and sent through photographs of the baby suspecting he was an orphan and might require rescuing.

Description Sattao's Story On 18th March 2017 'Kenya Wildlife Service' (KWS) received a number of reports from visitors about a tiny orphaned baby elephant wandering alone and abandoned, very thin and with predator bites on his back legs. Our Keepers based at our Voi relocation unit were informed, as was the 'David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust' (DSWT)/KWS Tsavo Mobile Veterinary Unit and the DSWT/KWS De-Snaring Team operating within that area. The Rescue Team located the calf after a short search and it became clear that he was in desperate need of rescuing, and in fact with the infamous Tsavo lions plentiful in that area, it was a miracle that he was still alive. Small predators (we suspect jackals), had attacked his rear end and hind legs and hence due to his wounds coupled by poor condition, it was evident that we needed to respond fast. The reason behind him being abandoned remains a mystery, but there had been a couple of poaching causalities in the area around this time and it is possible that one of these victims was his mother. What often happens in such situations is that the calf remains with the herd, but as it loses strength due to a lack of milk, the herd is forced to abandon it when it can no longer keep up due to its weakened state. This is more than likely what transpired in this baby’s case, because he was incredibly thin and dehydrated when eventually found. It is hard to imagine how frightened and stressed he must have been, all alone in such a hostile environment!

BARSILINGA'S STORY Gunshots were heard during the evening of 13th April 2012 by the community of the Lpus-La-Mpasion area near Wamba in the Samburu tribal area of Northern Kenya. The next morning a severely wounded female Elephant, with a calf at foot, was spotted in the area. Bullet wounds in the chest area and front legs had rendered her barely able to even move, yet another victim of the ivory trade and a grizzly reminder of the suffering attached to each piece of ivory that is bought or sold. The mother's end was a painful one, full of suffering, and her calf would have been a victim too had he not been one of the lucky few rescued.
Barsilinga is part of Gillie and Marc's exhibition - The Orphans.
If you purchase him, 50% will go directly to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

Description This hippo is on his way to the top! Things had hit rock bottom. His home was taken over by humans and he was constantly looking over his shoulder for fear a poacher could be hiding in the bushes. He decided enough was enough, he was no longer going to live in fear. With a little help from his friends, the hippo found a way out. Climbing high above the destruction below the hippo began his upward journey. From here it was up, up and away and he couldn’t wait to see what his new life had in store for him.

Description With the lifting of the ban on using rhinoceros horns for traditional medicine in China, the plight of the rhino seems to be going from bad to worse. Struggling to leave the threat of extinction behind, the rhino is still being hunted mercilessly by poachers for its priceless horn. Tied to this awful fate, we need to push past this reality and make the world understand the worth of the rhino species while it is still alive. This sculpture is part of Love The Last, a social movement driven by public art to raise awareness, funds and support for some of the world’s most endangered species. Incorporating their iconic characters Rabbitwoman and Dogman, you are invited to take a seat between them, inspiring conversations between friends, family, and even strangers! Rabbitwoman and Dogman tell the autobiographical tale of two opposites coming together to become best friends and soul mates. As unlikely animal kingdom companions, the Rabbit and the Dog stand for diversity and acceptance through love.
‘The Friendship Bench’ is a way of celebrating these differences rather than retreating in fear and division. Through ‘The Friendship Bench’, you are given the opportunity to take a moment and open yourself up to another with love and friendship, two of the most important things in the world. ‘The Friendship Bench’ is the chance to become Rabbitwoman and Dogman's friends, to make new friends, or just to take a photo to remember friendships.

Description Rabbitwoman has always fought for equality, standing not only for her rights, but also for the rights of everyone else. Now she is being celebrated, her work acknowledged and her inspiration eternalised in bronze.
Inspired by the international public art movement, Statues for Equality, this Rabbitwoman mini sculpture is a fun and quirky way to bring the gender equality movement into your own home. With only 4% of public sculptures representing a woman in the developed world, there is a major gender imbalance in how we celebrate achievements. The public art movement aims to reach more equality in public statues, creating new statues of the most inspirational women of our time, all around the world.

Description Everything is connected, from the tallest tree to the smallest ant. That’s why when one creature is threatened, they all are, including us humans! When the prey of one animal becomes scarce, the predator starves. Alternatively, if the predator is wiped out, the prey can become too plentiful wiping out plant life. This stack of endangered animals looks at the delicate balance, showing how they all hold each other up. But we’ve done it with extra fun! As you look at the hand standing hippo, we hope you smile, bringing all the animals into your heart and helping to make sure the tower never falls.

Description The game of hide and seek conjures feelings from our childhood of safety, love and joy. Gillie and Marc believe that all people and all creatures have the right to live in a world where safety and love are the rule, not the exception. Unfortunately, safety is often seen as a privilege rather than a right for many species of animals. Endangered species have had to hide from humankind for far too long. With 'Come out, come out wherever you are', the artists call on the world to welcome these species out from hiding and into a place of safety and love.
