Description School can be a daunting place, especially for the kindergarten kids who have never worn a uniform before and might be leaving their parents for the first time. Mosman Preparatory School commissioned Gillie and Marc to make an artwork that would reflect their school spirit. The artists wanted to give anxious children a sense of community, to feel safe in their “home away from home”. Rather than the usual sculptures that loom over everyone, Gillie and Marc’s artwork sculpture sits at eye level of the students instantly creating a sense of warmth and friendliness. The older boy puts a comforting arm on the younger one as though guiding him while the younger one looks up to him with admiration. The Journey Ahead reflects the school as a safe space. It’s the perfect example of school spirit and unity.

The Emanuel School is committed to providing educational excellence from preschool to Year 12. The School commissioned Gillie and Marc to create an artwork that would reflect the school motto, “Mind, Spirit Being” while embracing their Jewish heritage. Gillie and Marc worked closely with the school’s community including the principal, teacher and students. The artists created a beautiful and nurturing bronze sculpture of the school captain with a younger student holding a Kiddush cup. The sculpture depicts the important powerful bond between teacher and student, fuelled on both ends by dedication and kindness. They decided to install it in front of the school for the children and parents to interact with as they walk by, and get a sense of the school identity before even reaching the front doors.

Description "Seraphim, the Spirited Bull" is a captivating painting that captures the essence of a powerful bull facing the camera with unwavering spirit. The artist skillfully portrays the bull's strength and determination, while behind it, a moving silhouette in pastel evokes a sense of melancholy, symbolizing the gradual disappearance of these magnificent creatures due to the cruel sports they are subjected to. The dynamic brushstrokes and the interplay of paint and pastel create a sense of movement, further emphasizing the urgency to protect and preserve these animals.
Artwork Features In this highly expressive and passionate style Gillie and Marc have let their emotions run free in this explosive collection of freehand painting. Inspired by the styles of Brett Whiteley, Francis Bacon, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gillie and Marc have combined enamel paint with oil pastel to breathe life into the worlds most endangered species. Over the past five years, Gillie and Marc spent hours sketching and studying wildlife, travelling the globe to meet these animals up close. These sketches have now been brought to life in vibrant colour with love and passion. Each painting is created as a team with both the artists bringing their own emotion into every painting.

Description Artists Gillie and Marc Schattner, on August 26, Women’s Equality Day 2019, are bringing to life a dream, the move towards equal representation in women statues.
In a moment of deep self-reflection, they realized they had been contributing to the lack of women representation in their public art. However, the artists decided they could not sit back and let history repeat itself. Something has to change, and so with their new project, ‘Statues for Equality’, they have self-funded ten new women statues.
Because of this project, New York is becoming the first city to change the dynamics considerably - as the ten women are launched as statues the number will jump from 3% to 9%. The project will launch at RXR Realty’s iconic Avenue of the Americas.
Joining ‘Statues for Equality’ are ten portraits of each woman in a groundbreaking new show that expresses diversity and gender equality. Exhibiting alongside their permanent statue sisters at 61 Broadway, NYC, they will be on show for the public for 12 months. The women are painted on fabric from around the world, just as they as women represent the diversity of womankind, as does the soft materials that embody strength. Each piece has its own texture, shape, and feel.
The women’s faces are depicted in black and white, revealing the fine attention to detail from the artists; each line becomes part of the narrative of the portraits. However, their hair and clothes are full of colour and patterns. Flowing from the women they extend these versions and ideals of how women present themselves in society.
The use of fabric can take literal meaning; even though the material is soft, beautiful, and used as a way to express individuality. Fabric is also a carrier, babies are held close to us in wraps of material; goods and objects are transported for when we cannot hold everything; and it dresses us, for warmth and support.
The metaphor extends into the roles of women, and Gillie and Marc’s clever use of this medium, reminds us again, how important women are to our lives and the basis of society. Fabric is also another way to show our individuality.
Just as the ten women statues, made out of bronze, who will stand larger than life can teach us something about diversity and gender equality; as can these softer, tender moments of intimate and feminine representatives.
For the next 12 months, Gillie and Marc are aiming to paint 100 women, voted for by the public, who inspire greatness in our societies.
#womenforequality will become an extension of #statuesforequality – use the hashtag to vote for the most inspirational women you know, and take a photo with the paintings and statues to share Gillie and Marc’s message of equality.
Artwork Features Mixing two elements together, paint and fabric, these fabric paintings create a unique, 3-dimensional piece of art. With added texture, patterns, and depth from the fabrics, these paintings are transformed into something so much more exciting than a normal painting. Using beautiful fabrics from all over the world, these paintings are laced with fun, using patterns and colors in unusual places giving a different perspective on how things should look.

Description This painting titled "Shadow, the vanishing Sierra Nevada red fox" is a poignant portrayal of the endangered species, capturing the essence of their vulnerability and the urgency of their conservation. The focal point of the painting is a majestic Sierra Nevada red fox, facing the camera with a gaze that evokes both strength and fragility. Behind the fox, a moving silhouette rendered in pastel colors symbolizes the gradual disappearance of these remarkable creatures from their natural habitat. The combination of paint and pastel creates a sense of movement, emphasizing the fleeting nature of their existence. The title, "Vanishing," further underscores the imminent threat faced by the Sierra Nevada red fox, urging viewers to reflect on our collective responsibility to protect and preserve these endangered species before they disappear forever.

Description After one year of preparation, hundreds of sponsors, and two huge days of installation, the world’s largest rhino sculpture, Shandu, the Buried Rhino was placed on Sydney’s famous Tamarama Beach as part of the Sculpture by the Sea exhibition in 2016. “Shandu means change in South Africa and this was one rhino who lived up to his name,” Marc says. Shandu has now been installed into Monarto Zoo, the world’s largest open-range zoo. “We’re thrilled that Shandu has found his new home in Monarto Zoo,” Marc says. Shandu can be found soaking up in the rays in a gorgeous spot outside the visitor centre situated between the chimps and yellow-footed rock wallabies. “Monarto is a very rhino-focused place,” Gillie explains. “They even have a rhino for a logo so we know he will be very happy there next to his chimp and wallaby friends.” Not only did millions of visitors come to see Shandu but thousands of photos were uploaded to social media. Shandu won both the Allen's People’s Choice Award and Kids' Choice Award. This is only the third time in the 20-year history of Sculpture by the Sea Bondi that an artwork has been awarded both, as voted by the public. Gillie and Marc donated all their prize money to The Australian Rhino Project (ARP). The ARP aims to relocate 80 endangered Southern White Rhinoceros to Australia in an effort to safeguard the species. Besides nationwide media coverage, Shandu received worldwide media exposure from publications including the UK’s Telegraph and BBC UK. Every single TV channel in Australia featured Shandu too. All this press meant the ARP were flooded with calls of offer to volunteer. The artists managed to raise a massive $17,000 altogether to go towards the ARP.

Description Australian netball legend, Sharelle McMahon, has had her legacy and contribution to the sport immortalised in bronze, with a statue unveiled today outside Victoria’s home of netball – John Cain Arena.
Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos unveiled the statue, which was co-funded and created by Australian-based, internationally renowned sculptors Gillie and Marc – co-founders of Statues for Equality, a global movement to balance gender and racial representation in public statues.
“Recognising our female sporting heroes will help level the playing field and inspire the next generation of elite sporting talent,” said Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos.
“Victorians, like the sports we play are diverse and it’s important that the athletes we choose to honour reflect that diversity.”
Originally born in Bamawm in regional Victoria, Ms McMahon remains an icon of the game with her illustrious netball career spanning 25 years as both a player and coach, amassing a long list of outstanding achievements.
She represented Melbourne Phoenix and later Melbourne Vixens as a player more than 200 times and at age 21, she made her debut for the Australian Diamonds.
McMahon went on to captain Australia 12 times in an international career that spanned 14 years and 118 matches, including two gold and two silver medals across four Commonwealth Games and two Netball World Cup victories, even scoring the winning goal at the 1999 World Cup.
She was the first athlete from a team sport selected as flagbearer for the 2010 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony and in 2016 was inducted as an athlete member of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
Ms McMahon continues to be a commanding presence in sport, working as Cricket Victoria’s Head of Female Cricket since December 2021.
A second statue is set to be unveiled later in the year as part of the Statues for Equality project honouring fellow netball icon, Anne Henderson at the redeveloped State Netball Centre in Parkville.

Description Gillie and Marc’s immediate attraction to one another was animal in itself. In over two decades together, this animalistic nature has only strengthened. They are wild in nature, migrating to various places of inspiration. The first time Gillie and Marc saw a wild deer, they were fascinated by its commanding, vulnerable and graceful nature. Two stags lock their antlers to battle for a doe’s attention while spending their lives balanced on spindly ankles, leaping around like ballerinas. Dogman and Rabbitgirl are best friends but their hearts are so big and they have so much love to give that Deerman has now become one of their most treasured friends. Artwork Features Imagine if we could wear our art so close to our souls that we end up embodying its beauty and meaning. Gillie and Marc have always appreciated creative pieces of jewellery, so it was only a matter of time before they decided to think outside the jewellery box and take jewellery to a whole new level by turning it into art wear.
Gillie and Marc’s gorgeous range of art wear is handcrafted from the highest quality of hypoallergenic materials. And as a beautiful bonus, a percentage of profits goes to various notable charities to protect animals in need. So embody your art, and buy jewellery that can change the world forever.
Gillie and Marc’s sterling silver is made of 92.5% pure silver + 7.5% alloys (a mixture of metals: brass, copper and zinc). It is nickel free.
Care Instructions Clean your silver jewellery with a mild soap and water and then dry with a soft cloth. For more stubborn dirt, use a cleaner designed for silver use. Store your silver in a cool, dry place. Do not rub silver with anything other than a polishing cloth. Tissue paper or paper towels can cause scratches.

Gillie and Marc are determined to continue discovering a newness in their art. Often their work addresses serious themes, like diversity, acceptance and otherness. However, the artists feel that when someone brings art into their home, it should bring joy and brightness. Gillie and Marc’s Lolly Collection, or Lollies as they’re affectionately known, showcases the brighter side of the artists’ sensibilities.(In their home country, Australia, ‘lollies' is the playful name given to sweet treats and candies.) Description It was an Asia-on-a-shoestring dream that brought Gillie to Hong Kong. Marc was managing an ad campaign for the Regent Hotel and Gillie was the star model for the photo shoot. Within hours of getting to know each other they found a deep emotional connection that enticed their elopement. The artists were married a week later in a quiet but colourful ceremony in a Hindu Temple in Pokhara, the Nepalese city 200 kilometres west of Kathmandu. Now, 25 years on, the two have been inseparable. Dogman will do anything in the world to make Rabbitgirl happy, but all she has ever asked of him, is to simply stay by her side. Description This vibrant pop-art piece reimagines an iconic figure with a bold, modern twist. The portrait of a glamorous woman with a striking purple hairstyle and a flower in her mouth is set against a colorful, graffiti-like backdrop. The bright, neon hues of pink, yellow, and blue contrast with the sharp, graphic lines of the subject, giving her a dynamic and timeless presence. The exaggerated features and the playful flower add a sense of whimsy, while the background bursts with energy, celebrating her as both a symbol of beauty and rebellion. This artwork captures the essence of femininity, style, and confidence with a fun, contemporary flair.
Artwork Features The purest example of the artist’s freehand work, Gillie and Marc’s ‘Contemporary Line & Stencil Paintings’ are a stunning series that pairs unashamedly bold colors with deep black line work to form intimate moments featuring their signature alter egos, endangered wildlife and more. The carefully selected vivid colors and unmistakable imagery means no two pieces are alike and can have multiple meanings the more they are viewed. Gillie and Marc paint each unique canvas side-by-side ensuring love is engrained in every brushstroke of each one-of-a-kind work of art. Recently inspired by the pop style of Andy Warhol and the iconic stencils of street artists Banksy and Mr. Brainwash, Gillie and Marc expanded their collection with the edgy addition of using spray paint stencils on their canvases. The stark contrast of bright colors beneath a dark stencil breathes life into this limited series, embodying Gillie and Marc’s philosophy of the importance of accessible art by playfully bringing the street to the canvas.

Description In this painting Rabbitwoman is depicted sitting cross-legged on the floor, gazing directly at the viewer with confidence. Her nakedness represents vulnerability and authenticity, as she embraces her true self without any societal expectations or constraints. The title suggests her unwavering determination and assertiveness in pursuing her desires and goals. The symbolism here lies in the empowerment of women, challenging traditional notions of femininity and asserting their agency. It speaks to the importance of knowing oneself, embracing individuality, and fearlessly pursuing personal aspirations, regardless of societal expectations or limitations. The painting invites viewers to reflect on their own desires and the courage it takes to go after them, encouraging a celebration of self-empowerment and authenticity.
Artwork Features Gillie and Marc’s latest work is an exciting explosion between their painting and sculpture. With a love for both 2D and 3D work they have created a unique style of work which are in essence sculptured paintings.
Gillie and Marc spent a lot of their early creative life in Ubud, Bali. This was the home of painted wood carvings. They began to collect many Balinese wood carvings and learned how to artistically paint wood. Over the years they experimented in relief woodcuts looking to give it a contemporary feel. Much of their inspiration is looking at traditional art forms like bronze sculpture and wood carving and then creating ways to make it contemporary.
They are excited and proud to introduce their latest and favourite collection “Woodcut POP". These are carved wooden panels primed and sealed and then painted with a pop gloss enamel. These vibrant and exciting works allow the 2D paintings to fly off the wall giving excitement and dimension to wall art. Rabbitgirl and Dogman literally pop off the wall in a 3D effect. The modern explosion of colour and vibrancy is contemporary art at its cutting edge.
Galleries, collectors and corporates across the globe have already fallen in love with Woodcut POP with 10 major commissions now in progress.
Care Instructions It is important to keep your painting out of direct sunlight and not to lean anything against the surface of the wood. If it gets dusty, it can be cleaned with a soft dry cloth.

Description Unlike anything else in the world, music brings people together. Music is an emotive expression that transcends borders and is shared by every single creature on earth. Without a definitive race, religion, orientation or culture, Gillie and Marc’s iconic hybrid-duo symbolize the acceptance of all people as one. 'She loved the sound of her own music' was inspired by the way that, in some form, each and every one of us has created, listened to and shared music at some point in our lives. It has the power to calm, excite, surprise, and overwhelm us. Whether we’re at a concert with friends, singing alone in the shower, or listening to a busker play on the streets of an exotic location, it is through music that we realize we’re not so different after all.

Description The painting titled "She Said Yes" portrays a powerful moment of love and connection between Rabbitwoman and Dogman as they share a passionate kiss against the backdrop of the iconic New York City skyline. This artwork encapsulates the universal theme of love's triumph over adversity and the celebration of the human spirit. The cityscape symbolizes the vast possibilities and opportunities that love can bring, while Rabbitwoman and Dogman's union represents the harmonious blending of different backgrounds, species, or identities. Their kiss signifies the profound affirmation of acceptance, mutual respect, and the embracing of love in all its forms. Through this painting, the artist invites viewers to reflect on the transformative and unifying power of love, reminding us that true happiness and fulfillment can be found when we embrace and celebrate love's unbreakable bonds.
Please note: All canvases come stretched and ready to hang, however if you would like your painting to be framed, Gillie and Marc are happy to provide this service for you at your request. For framing enquiries please email us.
Care Instructions It is important to keep your painting out of direct sunlight and not to lean anything against the surface of the canvas. If it gets dusty, it can be cleaned with a soft dry cloth.

Little did Dogman know, all she cared about was the fact that he wanted to spend their lives together. So they decided to embrace the Nepalese tradition, and he proposed to Rabbitwoman with a beautiful piece of fruit! Then, the hungry duo shared it for their first meal together as newlyweds!

Gillie and Marc are determined to continue finding a newness in their art. Often their work addresses themes as serious as diversity, acceptance and otherness. However, the artists feel that when someone brings art into their home, it should bring joy and brightness. Gillie and Marc’s Lolly Collection, or Lollies as they are affectionately known, showcases the brighter side of the artists’ sensibilities. The clear resin has been created to capture and play with the light in a room and to brighten any space. This colourful resin makes an attractive statement piece and will invigorate any home.

Inspired by the international public art movement, Statues for Equality, this Rabbitwoman mini sculpture is a fun and quirky way to bring the gender equality movement into your own home. With only 4% of public sculptures representing a woman in the developed world, there is a major gender imbalance in how we celebrate achievements. The public art movement aims to reach more equality in public statues, creating new statues of the most inspirational women of our time, all around the world.

She thought that now might be the time to give the deep flavour of the red grapes a rest and switch to white. Description Gillie’s artistic tendencies started when she was a little girl living in Africa. She would draw pencil sketches of the wildlife in Zambia. Meanwhile, as a boy Marc would frequently visit Melbourne Zoo with his father so he could paint all the animals there. When the artists first met they stayed up all night talking about art and adventure. They quickly realised that they were kindred spirits. Dogman and Rabbitgirl are also kindred spirits. They fell for each other hard and fast. After the initial excitement wore off, they discovered they loved each other more than they thought was possible. Dogman and Rabbitgirl bring out the best in one another, because they are the perfect fit.
Description In this striking painting, a large face of a leopard emerges in vibrant contemporary colors, captivating the viewer with its intensity. The leopard's piercing gaze confronts the observer, inviting them to engage with the primal essence of the animal kingdom. The juxtaposition of the traditional subject matter with modern colors symbolizes the evolving relationship between humans and wildlife in the face of a rapidly changing world. It serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for conservation and our responsibility to protect and coexist with the majestic creatures that share our planet. The painting invites reflection on the delicate balance between nature and civilization, encouraging viewers to appreciate the beauty of the wild and take action to preserve it.
Psychologists have said that a kiss promotes feelings of trust and intimacy, with studies also proving that when people kissed they experienced decreased stress and improved quality of relationship. Gillie and Marc also believe that you can fall in love with the same person, over and over again. Dogman and Rabbitgirl also try to fall in love over and over again. For them, the best way to do this is with a kiss. Over the last five years, Dogman and Rabbitgirl have locked lips in various Gillie and Marc paintings and sculptures. Now their sweet and tender first kiss can live on forever close to our hearts. Artwork Features Imagine if we could wear our art so close to our souls that we end up embodying its beauty and meaning. Description Just like any mother, all this lioness wants is to keep her cubs safe. She wants them to grow up in a world where they have enough to eat, enough space to roam, and other lions to keep them company. She is scared that this might not be a reality as her home is taken over and the constant presence of poachers. But she still has hope. A mother’s love is fierce and will reign forever. As you look into her eyes you know that she will go to any length for her cubs.

'She was the pipe piper of love' was inspired by the way that, in some form, each and every one of us has created, listened to and shared music at some point in our lives. It has the power to calm, excite, surprise, and overwhelm us. Whether we’re at a concert with friends, singing alone in the shower, or listening to a busker play on the streets of an exotic location, it is through music that we realize we’re not so different after all.

All the other creatures revere her, giving her the space she needs to be happy. But there are some who don’t treat her with respect. They are humans, hunting tigers to steal their coats and use their body parts for ineffective medicines. Now she is asking for that to all stop. Will you protect Sheena?

Description Dogman and Rabbitwoman were on an exciting adventure through the bustling city of Singapore, zipping through the vibrant streets on their trusty Vespa. As they rode, they were surrounded by the lush, vibrant nature that characterized this beautiful city, with colorful parrots and playful monkeys darting through the trees and soaring overhead.
Despite the bustling activity of the city, Dogman and Rabbitwoman found themselves in a world of their own, marveling at the dynamic energy of the city and the breathtaking natural beauty that surrounded them. The streets were alive with the sounds of activity, with the lively chatter of people and the constant hum of traffic filling the air.

The vibrant hues of the flowers and trees, the playful antics of the monkeys, and the vivid plumage of the parrots all came together to create a rich and colourful world that filled them with a sense of wonder and delight.
