Description In early 2017, Gillie and Marc were commissioned to create a sculpture of Lady Mary Fitzroy dipping her toe into water – in recognition of the impact floods have had on Gympie, Queensland. The city is deeply connected to Lady Mary, known for her compassion and philanthropy. Lady Mary Lennox became a Fitzroy when she married her husband, Sir Charles August Fitzroy on a trip to Paris. The British native moved to Australia together, where Sir Charles became the first governor-general of Australia in 1850. Tragically, the well-respected Lady Mary was killed by a carriage accident. The heart broken Governor Fitzroy named a number of Queensland landmarks in memory of his kind wife, including the Mary River, Mary Street, Maryborough, and Mary Terrace. Hers is a story of tragedy, but above all else, love. Gillie and Marc’s creation of the sculpture marked the launch of a historic walking trail for the city of Gympie, which fuels increased tourism to the area.

In a groundbreaking work of contemporary art Gillie and Marc are giving us a rare glimpse into what extinction looks like. With a close up of Australia’s most threatened bird and one of the world’s rarest parrots, the orange-bellied parrot, this unique form of conservation lets us see the last 50 wild individuals left on the planet with a beautiful close up.
“It can be difficult to imagine what extinction looks like so we wanted to create a work that would help the public visually understand what this means,” explains Gillie.
With 50 stunning paintings, the artists have captured the dwindling numbers of this endangered parrot in a series that can all fit on one wall. It is a sobering exhibit to help bring understanding to this important issue and inspire conservation.

Location St Augustines College
Description Gillie and Marc were commissioned by St Augustine’s College to create an artwork that would teach their religious history in a way students would enjoy. Gillie and Marc flew to Cairns to meet with the principal and administration to brainstorm initial ideas. They came up with four ideas and then relayed them to the students. The final product was the Lavalla Table, named after the village in France where St Marcellin Champagnat established the world’s first Marist school. The table also includes two statues of boys talking to each other. The artists believe that when people sit together at the table to enjoy their favourite drink or meal, conversations are formed that can change history. This table represents human kindness at its epitome, where the youth of today can join each other with open hearts, and open minds to break down barriers that will make the future a better and more accepting place! After it was put in the playground, it became a huge hit! It’s strong enough so the children can sit at the table and have lunch. The feedback has been that they’re on it every day and the students love being part of this important historical event.

Description Lewis, the koala that was heroically saved by Toni Doherty and taken to an animal hospital during the Australian bushfires, passed away on November 26, 2019. The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital was caring for Lewis. They made the decision to euthanize him after caring for and inspecting his severe burns from the fires. “(Our) number one goal is animal welfare, so it was on those grounds that this decision was made,” the hospital said, according to CNN. They estimated that Lewis was 14 years old.
Gillie and Marc want to make sure that Lewis is memorialized. Lewis will be shown to the world in bronze, wrapped in bandages and sitting on top of a eucalyptus stump.
The artists hope the statutes bring more awareness to the fires, climate change, and koalas. Artist Marc said of the fires in an emailed statement, “This is a terrifying example of the effects of climate change and how destructive it can be. The fires are not just a problem for Australia, they are a global problem.” Marc and Gillie are known for their public sculptures that help spread love, equality and conservation.
Koalas have been severely affected by the fires. Some estimates say their habitats in Australia have been 80% destroyed. Gillie said in an emailed press release of the koala, “It is so upsetting that an animal so important to the Australian identity is threatened with extinction. We want the whole world to come together to help us make sure this adorable creature will always have a home to come back to.”

Description In 2019 and 2020, fires devastated Australia, tearing across the country at a terrifying rate leaving homes destroyed, livelihoods ruined, and many animals burned. Ellenborough Lewis the koala was pulled from the flames by the heroic Toni Doherty, who spotted the burned koala running into fires near Port Macquarie in NSW. The brave and loving actions of Toni gave Lewis another chance at life, a chance many of his fellow koalas did not get. Sadly, Lewis succumbed to his burns and passed away shortly after his rescue. Over 1000 koalas died in the 2019/2020 Australian Bushfires with 80% of their habitat destroyed. Already ‘functionally extinct’ this has led them ever closer to the threat of extinction. Heartbreakingly, Lewis has also joined the number of koalas who didn’t make it, having succumbed to his injuries.
This memorial to Lewis and Toni reminds us of the importance of human compassion and the role we all can play in conservation by simply stopping to lend a hand. The original monumental public sculpture has been donated to the Port Central Shopping Centre and the people of Port Macquarie by Gillie and Marc.

Description Can you imagine a world without lions? Being at the top of the food chain, lions only have one predator, us. Habitat loss is the single biggest threat to lions and that is all down to human expansion. We are pushing them out of their habitats because of our swelling cities and need for land for agriculture. As part of the series ‘Come out for a better tomorrow’, this lion is peeping out of a manhole, forcing us to remember its existence and asking us to work together to save it. This sculpture series calls for awareness of our impact on the world and to allow every living creature the right to feel safe and loved.

Description Canberra’s National Zoo and Aquarium is a small, friendly tourist site that allows its visitors to get up and close and personal with the animals. Crowd favourites are lioness Millie and her two baby cubs, Marjan and Sabi.
When the artists were approached to make something to welcome the guests staying in the Jamala Lodge, they wanted to keep with the Zoo’s “close encounter” atmosphere. Gillie and Marc recreated Millie playing with her lion cubs and the children absolutely adore it. Every day, loads of photos are taken of the children with the sculpture, cuddling the lions they just saw within the zoo.
Gillie and Marc believe art should be touched and loved. For children in particular, the physical laying of hands on animals creates a stronger emotional connection.

Description High above the clouds, we can look down at the earth, watching the ant-sized antelopes crossing the Serengeti or the monumental trees of the Virunga forests descending to the size of broccoli. It’s a unique perspective that helps us to really appreciate the beautiful interconnectedness of everything. We are all tiny, but together we are huge.
Some of Gillie and Marc’s fondest memories have been looking at the world from this perspective, flying above some of nature's marvels in an aeroplane. They have taken thousands of photos of wildlife from above, flying across some of the most spectacular landscapes of Africa.
Now they have transformed these experiences into their very first exhibition of sculpture wall art. In a spectacular experiment combining traditional 2D paintings with sculpture, Gillie and Marc have recreated exactly how it feels to view these wild scenes from the sky. The tiny rhinos pop out of the wall as they go about their day, and the zebra herds gallop beyond the frame as they cross the plains of canvas to the unknown. Above A Wild World gives us a new perspective, capturing the very essence of what a bright future for all wildlife could look like.
Artwork Features This groundbreaking new style of sculpture wall art is merging the practices of sculpture and traditional paintings, creating a unique 3D work that conveniently hangs on your wall. By incorporating objects or cloth on the canvas with ample impasto, these works become so much more than just a painting. Finished off with either paint or spray paint, the final product transcends the constraints of both traditional sculpture and painting to create a work of depth and substance.

Local Legends
Do you know a Local Legend? We want to help you celebrate the incredible stories (real and imagined), which make your community such a wonderful place to live! For over 20 years Gillie and Marc have created art in an autobiographical way, embodying their own selves through their iconic characters of Rabbitwoman and Dogman and the tale of their unique love story. Local Legends was born out of this realization that we all have a story to tell. Gillie and Marc’s project Local Legends will offer specific communities the chance to have created a custom bronze sculpture that embodies the spirit of who they are! The collection in Local Legends will consist of a series of site-specific pieces, which will act as a catalyst for connection and a deeper understanding of the local culture and people. Our goal is to achieve 100 Local Legends in 100 locations across both Australia and New Zealand! In taking part, each location will be connected to other Gillie and Marc sculptures in a shared collective network, giving visibility to these unique narratives that continue to shape our sense of cultural identity, and that may otherwise go unheard or be forgotten.

PAST EXAMPLES/CASE STUDIES
1. Diprotodon, Paroo Shire Council
Local Legends come in all shapes and sizes (and species!). Diprotodon is classified as “megafauna” and is more affectionately known as a giant wombat. It is the largest marsupial ever to live and first existed 1.6 million years ago. In 2011, a diprotodon skeleton called Kenny was found in Eulo in outback Queensland. Kenny is one of the largest and best-preserved megafauna skeletons ever discovered. The artists worked with paleontologists from Queensland Museum to use Kenny’s bones to recreate a biologically accurate, life-sized bronze sculpture. The bronze statue has helped create Paroo as a destination to learn about fossils and mega fauna in general. In fact, on the Outback Queensland website it lists the statue as the number one tourist site above mud springs, air raid shelters and rivers.
2. Darrel Baldock, Latrobe Council
Darrel “Doc” Baldock started out an ordinary bloke from Quoiba in Tasmania, but during his lifetime he left a lasting legacy both statewide and nationally. The Doc captained the St Kilda Football club to its only premiership in 1966, was a champion horse breeder and trainer and a state politician until 1987, when he retired to coach his beloved Saints. Many who reach the same levels of success as Darrel Baldock lose grips on their humility and empathy for others. However, throughout his life, The Doc remained a humble and kind soul, loved by his friends, family and community. This sculpture has become a beloved staple at Latrobe, drawing in crowds who want to take photos with this legendary man. Recreating such a worthy role model and indisputable Local Legend rendered in bronze reminds others to reach high, while never losing sight of their roots.
3. William Barak, Healesville Sanctuary
Healesville Sanctuary is one of Australia’s most-loved tourist attractions and the best place in Victoria to interact with native wildlife. The not-for-profit organisation is committed to fighting wildlife extinction. It’s also situated next to heritage-listed, Coranderrk. The Sanctuary wanted to pay tribute to William Barak (1824-1903), the last traditional elder of the Wurundjeri clan and influential spokesman for Aboriginal social justice. Until his death he was the acknowledged leader at Coranderrk as a liaison between the Government and the indigenous population. He dedicated his life to working tirelessly for his people, and was a highly respected man and leader to both Indigenous groups and European settlers. Gillie and Marc created a life-sized bronze sculpture that honours Barak as the brave and dignified link between different groups of people, unifying the Victorian community.

Description This artwork, "London Elephant" by Gillie and Marc, creates a striking contrast between the natural world and urban life. Set against the backdrop of London at night, the painting features a majestic elephant standing in front of a classic red double-decker bus. The wet streets reflect the city lights, adding depth and mood to the scene. The elephant’s presence in this metropolitan setting challenges the viewer to consider themes of displacement, coexistence, and the intersection of wildlife with modern civilization. Gillie and Marc frequently use animals in their art to promote conservation awareness, and this piece likely serves as a reminder of the beauty and importance of wildlife in an increasingly urbanized world. The elephant’s powerful yet serene stance makes it a focal point, evoking a sense of awe and reverence.
Artwork Features In this highly expressive and passionate style Gillie and Marc have let their emotions run free in this explosive collection of freehand painting. Inspired by the styles of Brett Whiteley, Francis Bacon, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gillie and Marc have combined enamel paint with oil pastel to breathe life into the worlds most endangered species. Over the past five years, Gillie and Marc spent hours sketching and studying wildlife, travelling the globe to meet these animals up close. These sketches have now been brought to life in vibrant colour with love and passion. Each painting is created as a team with both the artists bringing their own emotion into every painting.

The inclusion of their son and daughter further emphasizes the perpetuation of familial traditions and the passing down of values from one generation to the next. The presence of the Big Ben clock tower, with its grandeur and historical significance, represents London as a cherished home, where diversity thrives, and the passage of time is marked by enduring familial connections and shared memories.
Artwork Features Gillie and Marc’s latest work is an exciting explosion between their painting and sculpture. With a love for both 2D and 3D work they have created a unique style of work which are in essence sculptured paintings.
Gillie and Marc spent a lot of their early creative life in Ubud, Bali. This was the home of painted wood carvings. They began to collect many Balinese wood carvings and learned how to artistically paint wood. Over the years they experimented in relief woodcuts looking to give it a contemporary feel. Much of their inspiration is looking at traditional art forms like bronze sculpture and wood carving and then creating ways to make it contemporary.
They are excited and proud to introduce their latest and favourite collection “Woodcut POP". These are carved wooden panels primed and sealed and then painted with a pop gloss enamel. These vibrant and exciting works allow the 2D paintings to fly off the wall giving excitement and dimension to wall art. Rabbitgirl and Dogman literally pop off the wall in a 3D effect. The modern explosion of colour and vibrancy is contemporary art at its cutting edge.
Galleries, collectors and corporates across the globe have already fallen in love with Woodcut POP with 10 major commissions now in progress.
Care Instructions It is important to keep your painting out of direct sunlight and not to lean anything against the surface of the wood. If it gets dusty, it can be cleaned with a soft dry cloth.

Lost Dogs Of Hope Project
Gillie and Marc have set in motion a beautiful, life-changing art venture that will help thousands of Australians. What is the Lost Dogs of Hope Project Gillie and Marc’s Lost Dogs artworks represent the times we’ve all felt lost. The artists first came up with the Lost Dog concept in 2013 when they placed 100 Lost Dog sculptures in various locations around Sydney. Within a month, all but three of the sculptures were stolen. The Lost Dogs received a cult following and can still be found all over Sydney. Everyone will feel lost at some point. Talking about it is the first step to finding yourself again. So Gillie and Marc have launched The Lost Dogs of Hope Project, a series of various short videos where Australian celebrities discuss the times when they’ve felt lost and alone. Gillie opened up to her 60,000 Facebook fans about a time when she felt lost. She spoke about being a first-time mother, isolated at home with a newborn, scared out of her mind. At one point a tearful Gillie puts a hand to her chest and says, “I can’t do this”. The video went viral and within a week received over 118,000 views: https://www.facebook.com/gillieandmarc/video. The artists were stunned by all the comments from people sharing their own experiences of feeling lost. Viewers have even sent private messages of thanks. Gillie’s story may have helped thousands of others feel less alone, but there’s still more to be done. Who is involved? We’ve been so privileged to have inspiring people such as Mia Freedman, The Block’s Neale Whitaker, Olympian Elka Whalan, surfing champion Layne Beachley, actresses Allison Cratchley and Jolene Andersen, and blogger and TV personality, Lisa Clark, talk to us about the times when they’ve hit rock bottom. Having them share in such an honest and brave way really helps to break the stigma around feeling lost. We’ve also been interviewed by the Daily Telegraph, City Hub and the Wentworth Courier and are collaborating with Mamamia. What can you do? Gillie and Marc need your support in this unequalled, life-changing art project. Together, we all should spread the word. Because as it turns out, a one-minute video can make a lifetime of difference. CLICK HERE TO READ THE PRESS RELEASE Everyone will feel lost at some point. Talking about it is the first step to finding yourself again. If you’re feeling lost, you can call Beyond Blue, or even talk to your GP. Share your story on social media and tag #lostdogsofhope #gillieandmarc to help others feel less alone. Lost Dogs of Hope Finale Our Lost Dogs represent the times we’ve all felt lost. Earlier this year we launched a video series called the Lost Dogs of Hope Project as a way to break the stigma around feeling lost. We wanted to start a conversation to help those suffering know that feeling lost is a common, human experience. Our videos went viral receiving millions of views and in just 10 weeks we had overwhelming support from celebrities such as Mia Freedman, Layne Beachley and Matt Moran. This is the final video in our beautiful, heartwarming project. Please watch and share. When you’ve given up on yourself, hope is the first step to finding yourself again. The conversation has begun. Description Inspired by the true story and the film ‘Born Free’, this sculpture is a celebration of an orphaned lion cub who was saved by a loving couple. In Northern Kenya, a game warden called George Adamson was sent to deal with a lion who killed a man. Finding three cubs that were left behind he took them home to his wife, Joy, naming them Big One, Lastika and Elsa. They raised the cubs themselves rehoming two at a zoo. But they had formed a special connection with Elsa. They decided to release her to the wild and started the difficult journey of teaching her to fend for herself. After a lot of setbacks including a lack of hunting skills, being attacked by a warthog, and even becoming seriously injured after a different attack, Elsa found her feet. With a lot of hard work and dedication, they taught her how to be a wild cat and set her free in Kenya. Elsa grew to have cubs of her own, starting a new generation of lions that would have never been.
In the sculpture, Elsa stands on a 1961 landrover surrounded by orphan cubs, 20 in total. There are also two couples of adult lions, George and Joy, and Bill and Virginia, representing the real-life couple who raised the little orphaned Elsa, and the actors who played them in the movie. The cubs symbolise the future generations of lions.
If you purchase any of the lions, 30% will go directly to the Born Free Foundation.
