With a close up of Australia’s most threatened bird and one of the world’s rarest parrots, the orange-bellied parrot, this unique form of conservation lets us see the last 50 wild individuals left on the planet with a beautiful close up.

“It can be difficult to imagine what extinction looks like so we wanted to create a work that would help the public visually understand what this means,” explains Gillie.

With 50 stunning paintings, the artists have captured the dwindling numbers of this endangered parrot in a series that can all fit on one wall. It is a sobering exhibit to help bring understanding to this important issue and inspire conservation.

Hawthorn Legend Peter Hudson was honoured with the unveiling of a statue in his hometown of New Norfolk in Tasmania on Monday. A proud Tasmanian, Hudson began his playing career in New Norfolk, booting 378 goals in just 78 games over seasons with the club. At the beginning of the 1967 season, Hudson made the move to Hawthorn, where he would go onto play 129 games and boot 727 goals.

Rabbitwoman and Dogman loved visiting the romantic capital, winding in and out of the streets on their bicycles, looking at all the boutique shops and incredible architecture. They could ride all day without getting tired. But maybe that’s because of all the coffee they stop for.

Gillie and Marc’s latest work is an exciting explosion between their painting and sculpture. With a love for both 2D and 3D work they have created a unique style of work which are in essence sculptured paintings.

Gillie and Marc spent a lot of their early creative life in Ubud, Bali. This was the home of painted wood carvings. They began to collect many Balinese wood carvings and learned how to artistically paint wood. Over the years they experimented in relief woodcuts looking to give it a contemporary feel. Much of their inspiration is looking at traditional art forms like bronze sculpture and wood carving and then creating ways to make it contemporary.

They are excited and proud to introduce their latest and favourite collection “Woodcut POP". These are carved wooden panels primed and sealed and then painted with a pop gloss enamel. These vibrant and exciting works allow the 2D paintings to fly off the wall giving excitement and dimension to wall art. Rabbitgirl and Dogman literally pop off the wall in a 3D effect. The modern explosion of colour and vibrancy is contemporary art at its cutting edge.

The 190cm tall bronze installation features the artists’ iconic hybrid character named Dogman, holding a magnificent red apple. He knew this was going to be a year of good fortune, as the artwork is aptly titled, and aims to engage existing community residents while also attracting new visitors to this vibrant hub of multi-culturalism in Melbourne.

This dazzling sculpture can be found sharing a positive message and invigorating the experience in Melbourne’s new fashion flagship and dining destination, St. Collins Lane Shopping Centre. In Chinese tradition, when a dog enters a home it symbolizes the coming of good fortune. Dogs are loyal, clever and brave. Best friends to humans, they are known for having harmonious relationships with people from all-walks-of-life, and don’t discriminate against socio-economic status, race, religion, or orientation.

“We combined the powerful image of Dogman with an apple in the hopes of inspiring the public to be brave in the pursuit of a better world,” exclaimed Gillie. Gillie and Marc have worked side-by-side for over 25-years to create art as one. The artists first met on a film shoot in Hong Kong...then 7-days later, ran away to Nepal and married on the foothills of Mt. Everest. In the Chinese Zodiac chart, the dog and the rabbit are born to be a perfect pair. They understand each other by focusing on their similar traits, while facing difficulties with patience and open-minds. Coincidentally, Gillie and Marc are best known for their beloved characters –Dogman and Rabbitgirl –who tell the autobiographical tale of two opposites coming together to become best friends and soulmates.

As unlikely animal kingdom companions, the rabbit and the dog stand for diversity and acceptance. Inspired by the styles of Brett Whiteley, Francis Bacon, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gillie and Marc have combined enamel paint with oil pastel to breathe life into the worlds most endangered species. Over the past five years, Gillie and Marc spent hours sketching and studying wildlife, travelling the globe to meet these animals up close. These sketches have now been brought to life in vibrant colour with love and passion. Each painting is created as a team with both the artists bringing their own emotion into every painting. 

Please note: All canvases come stretched and ready to hang, however if you would like your painting to be framed, Gillie and Marc are happy to provide this service for you at your request. For framing enquiries please email us. 

Care Instructions
It is important to keep your painting out of direct sunlight and not to lean anything against the surface of the canvas. If it gets dusty, it can be cleaned with a soft dry cloth.
