Gillie and Marc spent a lot of their early creative life in Ubud, Bali. This was the home of painted wood carvings. They began to collect many Balinese wood carvings and learned how to artistically paint wood. Over the years they experimented in relief woodcuts looking to give it a contemporary feel. Much of their inspiration is looking at traditional art forms like bronze sculpture and wood carving and then creating ways to make it contemporary.

They are excited and proud to introduce their latest and favourite collection “Woodcut POP". These are carved wooden panels primed and sealed and then painted with a pop gloss enamel. These vibrant and exciting works allow the 2D paintings to fly off the wall giving excitement and dimension to wall art. Rabbitgirl and Dogman literally pop off the wall in a 3D effect. The modern explosion of colour and vibrancy is contemporary art at its cutting edge.

Even though Gillie and Marc are based in snowless Sydney, snow has been a big part of their lives. As a child, Marc was a frequent skier in Mount Buller in Victoria. When he and Gillie moved to New York, he couldn’t wait to play in the snow again. During the New York winter, Marc found an old-fashioned sleigh and he would take the family for toboggan rides. It turned out that the biggest snow bunny of all was their daughter, Jessie, who could literally spend hours on the sleigh in the snow. As an adult, she still tries to get down to the slopes every winter. Gillie, however, really feels the cold, so for her the best parts of skiing is snuggling to warm up afterwards.

Description
The mandrill sat and waited, a feeling of serenity washing over him. He had been through a lot. He had seen members of his troop being killed and taken away for a human’s dinner, he had watched as the humans came closer with their big machines, tearing down their homes to grow their own food. But despite all of this he still felt hope. He could feel it running through his body like electricity, bursting out the ends of his fur like sparks. This was not the end for him, he was ready for everything.

Inspired by the styles of Brett Whiteley, Francis Bacon, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, Gillie and Marc have combined enamel paint with oil pastel to breathe life into the worlds most endangered species.
